    2012 Honda Civic (9th Generation)

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show:

First impression? I'm not particularly keen.

I'm a fan of the current 8th generation Civic. So much so that I bought one a couple of years ago - it's a second-hand automatic in milano red, and I still enjoy driving it.

Fell in love with it because of its spaceship-like design. The triangular exhausts, the cockpit-like driver's seats, the wacky door handles etc etc. Was hoping the next model would offer warp speed and a holodeck, but all the fun stuff seems to have been toned down for a more conservative look.

I'll have to see it in person to get a proper feel for it. But it's not love at first sight.

Any other Civic owners out there? What do you think about the 9th-gen design?

    Interior - 9.5/10
    Exterior - 3/10

It just looks like a standard family car now there's absolutely no youth left in it at all.

Agree that the exterior has been toned down, but there are a couple of things that I would like on my one: -

    Rear windscreen wiper
The fin radio aerial (my one in the rear windscreen seems really crap )

The interior looks very similiar. The only thing I would be worried about would be having a drunk passenger with the handbrake next to them...

God awful looking thing ain't it, personally own a 7th Gen Civic and its the best shape so far, hated the 8th gen since they totally ruined the suspension setup though it did look nice I must admit.

Re: 2012 Honda Civic (9th Generation)

I don't like the look of those more angular side panels and swooping wheel arches. It doesn't flow together. Also it now looks boxier from the rear. I guess that's the compromise all car manufacturers have to make to add a rear wiper and keep a glass section below it, with this new 'fastback' styling but still it looks better than the back of a C4 Fastback.

I had a 7th Gen Civic which I absolutely loved, but the 8th Gen was too new & expensive when I was in the market to replace it. Although I liked the 8th Gen looks overall, I didn't like the lack of rear windscreen wiper, lack of a spacesaver spare wheel, and the greatly reduced rear seat headroom and loadspace. So at least they've listened to sense and reintroduced the rear wiper - terrible omission on a hatchback.

I like the Insight-style light cluster at the front. However I think that Yellow Topaz colour is the ugliest of all the available colours on the Civic!

Re: 2012 Honda Civic (9th Generation)

I like the exterior, but the interior looks like a cross between old vaux and citroen to me.. and that's not a good thing.

Re: 2012 Honda Civic (9th Generation)

Tbh thinking about it thats the normal civic, the Type R should have more aggressive styling so may look better, more to the point is what the Type R is going to be since the current engine no longer meets EU emissions standards, I doubt it will be a non turbo like the current one..

Re: 2012 Honda Civic (9th Generation)

God, it looks like an UGLY Seat Ibiza Bocanegra... The Gen 8 styling has grown on me after my initial dislike but this looks too bothched - the Grill and the wheel arch creases are a bit odd. But Im sure it will sell in droves.

As to the new one - I wouldn't spend my money on it. Perhaps it'd look better in a half-decent colour though?
