i dont get it, 4wd would be genius but shoving that engine in and leaving it RWD = pointless ??

should have left it in the balanced chassis imho

Firstly, all of that balance would have gone out of the window sticking such a heavy engine in the Impreza. Secondly, I bet that 4WD would have been completely impossible in an engine bay that size with an engine that big in it.
I do think it's about as pointless as the MX-5 with the Jaguar V12 in it.
However it's still an impressive achievement.

The impreza gearbox ends about half way down the car as it is!

Exactly! If you can, then why not! Some people read far too much into things. Looks like good fun to me.

There are many many carsdyou could ask WHY?

But then... then there is human nature.. and the desire to do something new

a great example of something that came out of the blue many years ago was this:

A 205 with a Hyabusa engine in the back

It's not until you try to compete with the damn thing that you realise what a mental good idea it was

Depends on if the competition involves any sort of loose surface?

Besides, I would only want RWD if the engine is in the back.

Absolutely! I fancy a go in the 3.0l V6 powered Fiat X1/9. And I want a change of underpants on standby

Quite like this Audi powered Lotus as well:

See now these i can get my head around as its not just an engineering show piece, it actually genuinely does something with the car.
The 205 was always a fun car to drive but sticking a zippy motorbike engine in the back of it is crazy. Its kinda like the V6 Clio.
The Lotus is an old car and the 2.2 fourpot is a bit long in the tooth. Refreshing it with a much newer Audi engine is a hell of a project.

Impreza... awesome car with an awesome engine and already fast. BMW M5... awesome car with an awesome engine and already fast. If they were trying to stick the engine in the back maybe i would get it?
