    Rolling road results....

    Something VERY odd happened.

Look at the power at the wheels figure....

79bhp lost through the transmission? Err, it's not a Scooby!

Summat defo aint right there.. gonna do some investigation...

I'm guessing they ran it more than once top see if it was the dyno's, what about everyone else, they get weird results or normal ones?

Nope they only ran it once. Everyone else seemed pretty happy, couple of odd results though. Don't think it span on the rollers, least I didn't see any.

    Ah well...

I'm guessing they ran it up in 5th gear?

There's really no true "power at the wheels" figure.

They way they tell you the figure is to run it up, once you've hit peak power, lift off and measure the "transmission" loss. Take away transmission loss from peak power and you have power at the wheels figure, yes? well, NO!

If you run the car up in each gear and measure the transmission loss in each gear, you'll notice something - the transmission loss goes up with each gear - Higher gear, higher loss.

So many other things can affect a dyno session too - Tyre pressure, ambient temps, gear ratios etc.

If you want to know how much power your engine makes, you strap to a dyno. If you want to make sure its running correctly than you go to a rolling road.

Don't get concerned with the figures Lowe; Don't start looking for problems that aren't there. All you need to know is that the car pulls cleanly and isn't running stupidly rich and weak at any point in the rev range.

Yeah they ran it up in 5th - hence the top speed. Quite chuffed it pulled nearly 140 All that maths wasn't in vain Jiff

I was just hoping for a bit more, feels like a bit of a let down, and I've never seen figures like that before!

Real shame that is Lowe. But there is no way that car can be putting out 80bph at the wheels. Noticed a few of the guys at the RR Day were a few BHP short of what they think they should have been.

On the upside, I can see where my power band is now... And that near vertical addition of torque feels nice.

    I REALLY don't think you've a problem.

Don't get all concerned about the "power at the wheels" figure. The important things to take away are that the fueling is right, and that there's no sudden spikes or trough's in the curve.

Holy moly- it goes from 60 to 105HP in the space of 500rpm!!. I'm guessing that'd make the kick in the back from my T-VIS valve opening feel very tame indeed!
