    is it the thing that covers the thing on a front wheel axle rack and pinion type steering thing on a rear wheel drive car?

    steering column support bracket thingy... y'know the bit under the dashboard... possibly with pedal box bracket on??

    I'm gonna go with Kaillum on this one - location wise... looks deffo like there's a bit for the steering column to go through... but I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say it's part of the rollcage?

    OK...Kaillum, Tumble and Skii........and obviously Coco who knew EXACTLY immediately

    It is the strut behind the dashboard (of a Zafira, but most Vauxhalls are similar) to support the huge weight of the dashboard....it DOES have a Steering column support too, so Tumble is right on

    It also supports the airbags, which need a very strong support, as they deploy hard and fast!

    Its 52inches long, and its made of 3inch steel tube.

    And when a dashboard is out...the car looks like THIS! The STRUT pictured earlier went across this entire car.

    Reasons NOT to fiddle with your own modern car's dashboard!
