Also, what about things like the magic round about in Swindon... Good luck not making any mistakes on that monstrosity!
True there are some oddities, though replacing 'straight' with the more correct 'second exit' usually sorts out anything with more than three exits total. But I'm talking about a few bog standard roundabouts which are simple dual carriage way crossing motorway types - four exits total, two lanes around the roundabout. It doesn't get any simpler.
Re: This is interesting....*car insurance*
I allways thought that if the exit was past 12 o'clock to where you wanted to go then you needed to be in the right hand lane unless otherwise instructed by road signs.
Re: This is interesting....*car insurance*
What annoys me is when it's a dual-lane entrance to the roundabout, you're in the right-hand lane, to turn right, and the person in the left-hand lane decides that they're going in a straight line to the opposite exit, rather than going 'around'. The amount of times I've nearly lost my front bumper cos these eejits can't stick to their lane...
Re: This is interesting....*car insurance*
There's a ridiculous roundabout near me (more or less at the northern end of the A20 for anyone that's interested, we used to call it the 'World of Leather Roundabout' though now the biggest feature is a Big Yellow storage centre). It has four entrances (and so obviously four exits). Each road entering the roundabout has three lanes. Each exit has two lanes. You'd think that'd be the simplest roundabout in the world- left lane to turn left, middle lane for straight on, right lane to turn right.
But- all three lanes on each entry have straight arrows- the left hand lane is a straight on or left split arrow, the middle lane is a straight on arrow, and the right lane is a straight on or right split arrow. About a year ago I was driving my old and slow Mondeo Mk1 Diesel, and positioned myself on the middle lane as I was going straight on. I had to give way to someone coming around the roundabout, and so stopped at the give way line. At that point two cars pulled up either side of me. The car traversing the roundabout cleared it and we all moved off- at which point I found that both the cars who had pulled up either side of me intended to go straight on as well! I was clearly in the correct lane for going straight on, and so I had to make a choice of who to squeeze out. I chose the bloke on the left, on the basis that he was probably the bigger idiot, choosing the left lane to go straight over a roundabout. But the road markings are truly idiotic! There's always a massiver tailback there during the rush hour.

Yeah, another variant of my complaint. Where there are the correct lanes it's not hard to stick in them!
I know of a similar roundabout to Rave's as well - this time on the A21. There are four entrance lanes, three of which are labelled straight on.. only straight on is a single lane exit... clever.

Out of interest I have a question to everyone complaining about other peoples driving and the in/outs of what they are aledgedely doing wrong..
When was the last time you read the highway code?
Re: This is interesting....*car insurance*
before i did my driving test, i don't see how its really relevant though.
Re: This is interesting....*car insurance*
I don't think the rules on which lane to be in on a roundabout or motorway have changed, nor the concept of sticking to the lane you started off in when going round a roundabout...

More recently than you if you think it says anything about multi-lane roundabouts in contrary to what we've been saying. I point you at rules 185 and 186.

Well unless you passed after 2007 you would have missed the new 29 rules which were added.

You might be surprised. If you stay in the same lane you started off in, you'll forever be going round in a circle and might get dizzy

I read it 2 weeks ago, didn't learn anything though :(
Re: This is interesting....*car insurance*
Were those 29 new rules relevant to roundabouts? Are you now allowed just to cut across whichever lane you want on a roundabout now?

Took the words right out of my mouth.
