    Re: Winter Tyres

We had snow - one night of it. The roads were a bit slushy in the morning, but that's all.

Kinda disappointed, because the Tiguan had a set of well used Bridgestone ditchfinders fitted when I bought it, so I replaced them with four Cross Climate+. The Michelins are excellent in the wet, that much I know, and are supposed to be pretty decent in the snow, although I doubt I'll find out down here.

I said I'd get winter tyres this year, but as yet haven't. Haven't really regretted that either, not had any real issues as yet.

    Re: Winter Tyres

Well after 32k miles on the Crossclimate + it was time to replace them. They have been superb tyres on my FWD 2l turbo petrol Saab. Not a single issue, driven in all conditions; -10c to 40c, standing water, snow, ice, sticky tarmac. Short journeys to 2500 mile treks across Europe at speeds up to 110mph in a fully laden estate on the autobahns. Heavy braking too when idiots change lanes without looking/ cat runs across the road, never once felt i needed more from them. Only slight minus is a drop of about 3mpg from the summer tyres i used to have, happy to recommend them though.

When it was time to change them, i looked at getting another set, unfortunately the price had gone up ~ £460 fitted. Surprisingly the local Quikfit had a great offer (and i found an additional discount code) on Goodyear Vector all seasons Gen2 and after reading reviews plumped for those; £340 for 4 brand new all season 17" tyres fitted is a bargain IMO.
First impressions are good; they are quiet and slightly softer than the crossclimates and maybe a touch better fuel economy. Covid has curtailed my mileage this year but i will report back after a longer test.

    Re: Winter Tyres

New tyres with 7+mm tread are going to feel softer than those you just replaced with <3mm. Good to see the Crossclimate+ wore well though. Crossclimate 2 should be out soon over in the UK which will be cool - I just wish Michelin would also consider releasing the Pilot Sport All Seasons 4 over here.

    Re: Winter Tyres

I really want to get all season tyres but as I run summer tyres, they have always been replaced in twos. This means I am struggling to get them all to wear out at the same time. Id rather not waste tyres by jsut changing 2 anyway. it seems such a waste.

The reason they are changed in pairs is mostly due to punctures etc and my unwillingness to get rid of perfectly good tyres. I also never rotate, mostly due to time, and that Id be charged quite a lot locally dt do so. I was quoted £30 a tyre or 100 for 4. Given the cost of a corner for me is around £160-180, replacing all 4 will be very expensive.

However, I need to check my tread now and see where I'm at in regards to wear. I do about 18k miles a year so I want tyres that have great wear. is the crossclimates the best in this regard?

    Re: Winter Tyres

Well, sods bloody law and all that jazz. Turns out I need 4 new tyres. I've ordered 4 Continental Allseasons. £590 fitted Decent tyre? THey seemed to be the best of both worlds. I just want tyres with decent wear etc as well.

I was going to get Cross climate 2's but my garage had no stock. Getting elsewhere would have cost £690-700 for the 4. Didn't think it was worth the difference over the continentals.

    Re: Winter Tyres

I’ve just bought Cross Climate+ for my new Beemer. £410 for 4 fully fitted plus a free Road Angel Halo Go dashcam. Thought that was pretty much a bargain especially as I’ve sold the dash cam for £60.

Tyre Reviews latest all season test:

The new CrossClimate 2 rated top overall but not by a huge margin. The Conti placed a strong third - I doubt you'll be disappointed.

My CrossClimate+ set only have about 16k on them, so it'll be a while before I need a new set - just as well at ~£150 a corner - but I'd be happy sticking with Michelin.

    NEW ALL SEASONS FOR ME

RADAR DIMAX 4 SEASONS on my Suzuki SX4 4x4

So far.. excellent. Dry grip (needed 200 miles scrubbing in) good as I want
OFF ROAD ( I do a bit in woodland on steep hills now) very good grip! Impressive actually
