oh no, not the dreaded parkers guide. not the most acurate. glass's suggests £3700 clean ie nothing to do (Trade), £4700 (retail).
got to say though zak priced an estate up before he went to sunnier climates, a W Plate, but we ended up £500 behind what book said, just bear in mind
Glass' = rip off merchant's guide to stinging people out of their hard earned by not giving them their car's REAL worth!
as the title says "glass's Guide" & "parkers Guide", it is used as a guide, unfortunatley or fortunatley which ever way you want to look at this, with manufactures pumping the market with pre reg cars etc, what this does is the following, you as a punter able to save say £4000 off a new car, Great, but on the other hand this means that 2nd hand cars also have dropped reasonably sharpley, not in exactley the same ratio's but still frightenly steep. Glass's are only responding to the market place itself, ie auction rooms, dealers etc, you can't expect to save bundles on a new/ pre reg car, and expect your car not to be affected in any way, can you?
If you look at it more openly, new cars have never been cheaper, used cars have never been cheaper, so what's the problem? if a car is mint, fine, yes it's likley to be worth roughly what it say's in the book.
i'm not very good at explaining on this typing lark, but in a nut shell the manufacture at the end of the day control's what happens with the product and the market, just seems to me no one wins at the end of the day, cheap new cars everyone happy, but when you find out what your px is worth your not happy, baffles me.
the cost to change is a better way of looking at it, lets say, if you compared a car you bought say six years ago to now, and put the figures side by side, cost of new car, values of px's, see which one is best deal, what im saying is you might save £4000 on the new car now, compeared with six yrs ago, but may be you get say £1500 less for the px this time, you are still £2500 the better side of thing's.
Zak would be able to explain it better.
You must be a car salesperson. Or you could work for one of the car manufacturers!
he works with Zak, Rich lol
Wow! How did I guess?
just trying to help you understand how this all comes about.
why is it that no one gets upset when there super duper graphics card get super seeded and almost becomes worthless overnight, i know the ammount of money for a car and graphics card are no where near each other, but why are people happy to just bin the old card and not worry about the cost?????
people buying top of the range GFX card ( early adopters ) will always get ripped off. Its like buying a brand new car , that is in high demand at full m.r.r.p
being at the cutting edge of technology will always carry a premium.
GFX card technology moves along a lot faster than automotive technology - so the cutting edge is rarely cutting edge for that long and hence last month cutting edge card is sold a less. If you are clever , you can sell it on the forums ( such as the excellent ones here *pimp* )
you'll make say , 75% of your money back if you seel fast enough , so your cost to change isn't that much.
you can do the same thing with cars , but you can't keep them long.
eg. buy a top of the range 911 , hang on to it for 8 months , and look after it well and I suspect you can make back a very healthy percentage of the price , which you then use as a trade in on another one. Cost to change is very low , and you drive round in a brand new 911 for a few grand a year ( assuming you have the capital to buy a saught after model)
now a ford focus isn't and never will be in that position , in the same way that a budget ( but well performing) graphics card. What you dont have is NVidia selling "preowned" cards at bargain prices after sitting on a shelf in a warehouse for 6 weeks. As you say this artificially drives prices down ( so much so that I'd imagine the numbers of NEW cars sold has dropped to the point that its only fleet purchase that drives it ? )
I know its not a fully Zakified explanation , but thats how I see it.

Oh, I know how it all comes about. Was just messing about a bit!
Your argument does seem to have the car salesperson tinted glasses to it though!
when responding in future i will try and remove my rose tinted glasses
