Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Not an issue in the US, ever. People here want to park as near to the doors as possible. They will wait ten minutes for a parking spot rather than walk ten extra yards. It's ridiculous. I park as far away from other vehicles for safety, and always have the area to myself!
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
"Dear Mr Zak,
We are sorry to say that your car has a severe anti-social personality disorder. Clearly it had a traumatic manufacturing process, perhaps bullied by more powerful models, which explains why it wants to go to the furthest parts of the car park to be alone, and now rebuffs any attempts by other cars to be friendly.
With care and understanding, this problem can be overcome. You need to show it some trust and accept that life has its ups and downs and little knocks and set backs. It must realise that it can't always run away and hide - there will be times when it has to mix with other cars on the great highway of life.
I hope it will recover and go on to enjoy many hundreds of thousands of miles, happy in the company of its own kind.
Yours sincerely,
A. Bodyshop"

You have been mistreating your car, shame on you Mr Zak...

People behave very differently in their respective cars vs outside of them. As if the cage the car provides makes them invincible and everyone else can get stuffed; I think I've cracked the case with regards to lane hoggers though, they feel they own the road and therefore the lanes on it and can then choose the lane they want to drive in and ignore the first rule of the road they should have learnt: keep left, pass right. Not only is the middle lane more dangerous because you need to keep track of cars passing on your right going faster and cars on your left going slower... or in some instances where the person is doing 60 in the middle lane cars passing on both sides going faster. It is worse on dual carriageways with only 2 lanes and people just stay in the right hand lane, wtf is wrong with the left? It isn't designated for trucks only, especially so when no-one is in it in the distance either.

A lot of what we do as humans is copy others, we are composites of the examples we grew up with. It seems that is no different for driving. I guess parking on the pavement, or in the empty area, is too cool to resist copying; it doesn't stop them from failing though.

Might just be urban buggers annoying us country folk though...
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Today.....asda Sandwell

This might be worth a blog!
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Why not cycle Zak33? You may encourage people to cycle... they seem to copy you, so may as well use your powers for good :)
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Or how about a musical rendition:
♫ Why do cars, suddenly appear
Every time, you are near
Just like me, they want to be
Close to you ♫

That'd also work really well for WHENEVER I want to reverse onto my drive.....
empty road....empty road....empty road....empty road.... There's my drive, I'll just indicate and oh look, here comes EVERY car from a three county area.
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
I also find the empty spot in a carpark... or, if I'm using a multi-storey, I go right up to the top deck. Even if the place is empty - everyone wants to park on the 1st floor (less time in the lift or something)

I would buy a bike just to chain it to his by accident.
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Is this some kind of etiquette you are miss understanding?
Kind of like if in a bar in Soho, some guy comes and uses the urinal next to you, they are hinting.
They park next to you, give you that hint, they help hide you from view from the public, it's all part of the plan. Some take it far, as you mentioned you couldn't squeeze in your door, this means they can say why don't we go to my place.
Obviously you've got the look that says dogger.
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Ah now THAT is viable!!
I think you have something there
." why do....rough birds... Suddenly ap-pear....every time....I show my rear.....
Just like me.....they long to pee...over you......"
This is going down hill pervo boy ;-)

Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
I've also wondered for many years why this happens, always having 3 door cars, and not wanting dints, i've always done the same and parked away from others, only to come back to cars parked next to me.
The only logical explanation I can come to is lining-up laziness.
If you're like me, you also line your car up well in a space, ie in the middle. I think some people can't be bothered trying to park well what with all the effort needed to get the car "in" the space, so when they see your well parked car it's easier to just pull up along side, knowing that if they line up with your car they've parked well, without all the effort of working out where the space markings are.

That makes a lot of sense.
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
I think Barakka hit on a major point in this, one I get annoyed with.
The first thing that I am annoyed with is the standard size of parking bays, at 2.4x4.8m (http://www.planningni.gov.uk/index/p...-standards.pdf). That size is ridiculous and having that as the minimum only encourages parking lot owners to make their parking spaces that size because more spaces = more money to them. It infuriates me that the standard parking bay size is so small, my work experience included the design of a temporary parking lot and I did my best to fit larger bays in where I could but the amount of cars they wanted made it extremely difficult. At least that can be changed by making the minimum parking size reasonable.
The human element that I dislike, and Barakka mentions tangentially, is the annoying disregard for the use of adjacent parking bays; getting into the parking space in a manner that doesn't make using adjacent spaces more difficult requires only little extra time but apparently people care so little that they would rather get, and give, scratches just to save a few seconds of straightening up when parking. I've had someone ask me why I bothered to straighten my car in the bay... I answered by saying I like to be able to get in and out of my car comfortably, not by contorting my body to fit through the gap available. Of course others can park close to me, but as Barakka mentions, people use your car to judge how straight they are so if you park properly you are less likely to get someone park improperly next to you.
It is a major annoyance of mine because I find paying for parking bad enough, having to deal with inadequate parking bay sizes and people parking badly makes things significantly worse.
Re: I'm parking alone....please don't park next to me!
Perhaps a light that goes off under the car at random intervals will convince people that your car could go up in a ball of fire at any minute, and hence park at least far enough away that you can get in the ******* door.
