Brakes so good they can cause you injury at high speed.

Huge foot drops down from the car and vacuums to the road to improve stopping distance.

I recently gave my own brakes a full rebuild-service, so I have ^this already.
Besides, you won't get a big foot thing to fit on my motorcycle!!

Seatbelts should stretch enough that you don't get internal organ damage - they're designed to cope with fair abrupter impacts!

They only stretch so much, and only the once. Probably poor form for brakes to use up that energy absorption ability in the moments before impact

Most modern seat belts have pretension ears that tighten the belt on impact. I doubt any friction breaking system will stop a car as fast as hitting a large stationary object, or a car with the same mass travelling at the same speed in the opposite direction.

Yep that was my point re: impacts, but I think the pretensioner isn't so much to counter stretch as it is to move the belt closer to the body (compressing clothes, slack etc.) so the body deceleration can begin sooner giving both more time and space for it.

Yes, pre-tensioners make it a better seatbelt, they don't change the fundamental way it works.

But if the brake is equivalent to being in a low speed impact then they could consume the usefulness of the seatbelt to absorb energy. At that point, you are decellerating at the same speed as the car not at the safer car + amount of give in the belt, so a lengthy deceleration could be a problem and if you hit something despite the brake then you are doing so with a spent seatbelt which isn't good news.

I think this is a clever idea, but I am still not convinced it is a *good* idea

This is why seat belts and air bags are needed.

That is why most modern car are equipped with abs, but this is really something. I doubt this won't be effective when used in off road or trail rides.
