nope i use adtrader becos i need one that's close to me.

i have consider those below £5000 but those goods ones are either too far or in bad shape. would have purchase a 2.0 ghia for £4500 but it was already sold when i call.

i think this one i am interested in is slightly overpriced. i think it should be £5000 at most. but £5500 is the best she would offer atm. initially she is asking for £6000 which i don't think anyone will pay.

Parkers.co.uk's website reckons £5180 is the max for a private sale on a car of that spec in good condition (I've assumed it's the Petrol 1.8 not the diesel and is a 5 door) but that doesn't take into account the low mileage. AFAIK the differences between the current LX and Zetec models are minor (different interior trim, different alloys, different grill and front fog lamps - also the Zetec supposedly has slightly stiffer suspension). The older LXs didn't have alloys or CD as standard IIRC. ABS is still an option too (my 1.6 doesn't have it). An alarm isn't standard on anything but the high end models either (though they've all got an immobiliser and double / dead locking). Also - if the car's been modified to allow a disabled person to drive it will this affect your use of the car (i.e. are the controls still in the normal place or have things been moved or removed?) and will buying a modified car increase your insurance?

Good choice. Got a 99T 2.0 Ghia and its a great car, totally reliable, cheap insurance, and still better to drive than any vaux, honda, vw, skoda, or anything else.

As top gear said on sunday, the focus is still the class leader when it comes to handling. Pretty good for a 6 year old design no?

Yep and then spomeone in a focus 1.6 pulls out of a junction in front of you and you die.

My life is worth more than that thanks, i prefer 1.5tons of steel and multiple airbags around me than just a helmet and the strength of my bones.

Just chopped my Focus ST170 in. Not a bad buy at the moment as there are lots sitting on garage forcourts. Best trade in price I could get was £8800 on a 52 plate inc plenty of toys on it. Threw it in for a BMW 320d brand new. At least the salesman dropped £500 off the price of the beemer and threw in a 6 CD changer and 5 years servicing. If I'd bothered with the hassle of selling it (the Focus) privately then I may have got another £1000 for it.
