    car getting fixed by vauxhall

I took my car in this morning, to get steering fixed on corsa because it was stiff turning right compared to the left. Anyway, just got a call from them saying that my brake pads were 95% worn and needed replacing, and did i want them to do it for me? It would cost me £142 total. Anyway, i said yes because i know that my brakes are dodgy. Anyway, i just phoned my boyfriend to tell him, and he told me that thats way over priced and that he could just buy some brake pads and fit them himself? He wants me to call them and tell them not to do it? Is this overpriced? Surly at least they will be fitted by proffesionals. My boyfriend hasnt done anything like it before. Personally im more concerned for my saftey anyway.
I probably cant tell them not to do it now anyway, because its been half an hour since they called. I just need some kind of reassurance

Fitting pads is not too hard, but it's not a piece of cake either, and it is possible to fit them badly. If the £141 is for all four wheels that doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

I wont let Vauxhall touch my car ever again, simple as....

If you've got a friend that works there and will do it for u fair enuf but they employ monkeys cos there cheap labour and these monkeys learn stuff by screwing up your car, tightening bolts overtight "just to be sure" as well as many other things I'm sure...

In short find someone local who knows what there doing and get them to do it...

It is indeed a piece of cake. A complete set of pads should be less than £40 saving you £100. About going rate for an hours labour

I suppose it all depends whether you trust / are confident in your BF. If he is a certified grease monkey who rebuilds 800bhp twin turbo supra engines all day just for fun, then yes let him do it. If he has trouble working the video recorder then it may not be such a good idea

Pretty reasonable price if it was new discs as well. I tried to replace my own discs once; I just couldn't get the old ones off no matter what I tried.

It's a reasonable price for the discs as well.. I needed an impact driver to remove the discs on my car, became a very involved job!

Anyway, the reason i took it in in the first place was to sort out my steering, which when turning right was stiff at about 10 degrees past north. Felt quite dangerous to drive round cornoers because of this. Anyway, they said that they never seen anything like this (aylesbury) and eventually said it was the steering pump that was gone. Is there two steering pumps, because if there is only one, why is my car stiff to the right but nice and light to the left?

My landy does that.. but only cos I don't get a chance to drive it very much atm. the universal joints on the steering column seize up a little bit - good squirt of WD40 unsticks em properly tho

They came to pick my car up at 9am friday morning. I got a call at 2pm to say that the wrong part had arrived and that they would have to book it in for another day next week! So its now going in on tuesday.
    They are useless!
