You wonder how some people get dressed in the morning. Relying solely on the gearbox is pretty dumb. This is the thing in question:

Not sure how you could mistake it for anything else.

Still, I think it's more a problem of what's in the driver's seat than the car.
Well, technically , from what I gather, the vehicles affected don't have a "hand" brake, i.e. a lever on the centre console, but rather a parking brake pedal in the foot well.
Anyway, I know what you mean and to answer the question; I don't know, but there's at least 314 of them.
EDIT: The parking brake pedal can just about be seen in the background next to the 'problem' shifter.
