I watched it last night and thought it was okay. I thought CE was a bit hyper here and there too many times but apart from that it was good.

This right here is why I've been so willing to give Evans a shot - Clarkson was a lying prick when it came to plug-ins. Doing donuts in a Tesla Roadster to fake it running out of battery on the track? "Help it's too complicated" when presented with a round peg and round hole during an i8 test.
Next week is where I see if this is show is a show I wanna watch.

I caught two minutes, where CE was apeing JC in reading out the lap times, and then changed channels.

Better than last weeks, but where's Sabine? Best of the new lot and I think she's had about 2mins on screen so far. Only proper driver and funnier than the other two put together IMO, like Henning Wehn with a racing license. Not to mention being the only one with an opinion not culled from the manufacturer press release as far as I can tell. I'm already tired of Chris telling me "ZOMG THIS 700HP CAR IS SO FAST!!1!" while making noises I've only ever made during a zip malfunction. Yeah a few seconds of it is appropriate for some cars but 10mins of it gets real tedious.
Anyone else think EJ and JB could do a much better job than him and LeBlanc?
The studio parts were still a bit poor (mainly CE), but he seemed OK in the videos. It is annoying that he is basically doing a JC impression throughout, as you get the worst of both.
I think the chemistry between them all is going to be different. You used to have 1 alpha vs 2 betas. Now you have 2 alphas and a whole host of supporting minors, or at least that seems to be how it is going.
As directhex said, it will be interesting to see if we start to see different points of views, but I can't help thinking they are going to try to copy JC again with his views...
Not watched it, i'm not remotely interested and I don't want to add to the viewer numbers keeping it alive. I really cannot stand Chris Evans, and Matt LB was a fine actor playing the idiot in Friends but he has been terrible in everything else he has played, so I cannot imagine he works well in what should be more of an improv type role.
Top Gear was only enjoyable because of the interactions between May/Clarkson/Hammond - without all three of them it just doesn't work for me. It didn't before 2002 and it probably won't now. Very much looking forward to the Amazon version though!
The BBC should really have completely revamped it with a new format as well as a new cast - that may have been worth watching..but trying to emulate the success from the previous incarnation was a massive mistake.
You could argue that he is then ideal for this role, as it is mostly acting with a littel improv. He is also a "gearhead" (US term I believe), so that should help as well.
I agree. Whilst I am not going to shell out for Prime to watch it, I think it will be a good comparison to base this "new" Top Gear on.
He was actually my favourite segment in the first episode the moroccan bit was great.
As for this weeks, why the hell are they putting 3 new "celebs" with the people driving brand spanking new offroaders in South Africa. I don't understand what's going on. There are too many faces. The presenters haven't had chance to build any chemistry yet and you are adding more into the mix?

I think you might be taking it a bit harshly. For a start of the BBC did not libel tesla. I don't see why people think that.
It was an Elise, but one that can't do a track day. The only Elise owners I know, when they aren't buying new fuel filler caps for £80, are track day enthusiasts.
Sure it might have a range of 200 miles, but when doing track if it's only 55, that's an issue. More so that it takes overnight to recharge because back then there were no supercharging stations. This is worth pointing out when you are a car that an Elise.
The critique of the Tesla Roadster was rather correct in my book, it was very expensive and very underwhelming. It was an odd little proof of concept more than anything else.
Hammond gave a rather good review of the Model S, even mentioning he might buy one himself. I don't think you can call them biased against it, they just aren't early adopters.

Sure, but he ain't wrong. Totally irrelevant figure.
It's true - overnight viewing figures don't tell the whole story.
The decline was inevitable - they were bound to get a lot of viewers for the first show, which was weak tea at best - they squandered their best opportunity. I'd wager if the first episode was more like the significantly improved second one, the figures would be a bit healthier.
