    First car!

Picking up my first car next thursday or friday - can't wait, although abit worried I'll do something really stupid as soon as I get in it

Insurance is a tad high mind - 2000 for a 2003 52 plate corsa comfort - that's without pass plus, 1400ish with it, so going to do pass plus as soon as I get the car. My ADI is giving it to me free - providing its in my car so atleast I should get a decent rebate.

Put down the deposit on Weds, I thought i'd struggle to remember the plate of it for some reason - but it's already branded into my head

Really looking forward to it - passed my driving test on the 18th of jan, been aching to get a car since

So, when did you guys get your first cars? remember the day? - tell us your stories!

Well done dude, you beat me by 2 days! i passed my driving test on jan 20th!! im still looking to get my first car tho...just too many to choose from...most of which out my range DOH!

The most dangerious time for new drivers is probably 6-8 months down the line when they THINK they have learned everything they nees to know and are convinced thay are an 'excellent driver'.

Just make sure u keep your mind on the task at hand and dont try to do anything stupid. you will be fine

    Well done mate!

    I remember the day alright!
I bought the car from a little garage called Birds just outside Brockworth in Gloucester and was EXTREMELY paranoid about driving it home. With my dad following behind I strumbled out onto the road only to realise their was about 2 miles of fuel left!
I proceeded to get even more paranoid until I spotted a petrol station (with Dad wondering what was going on) and promptly parked up with the fuel filler on the wrong side.

The rest of the journey home was great though short. I'm not sure what my parents though the first time I went out 'solo', Mum looked a little concerned, but I was over the moon!

Two weeks later, when approaching a notorious roundabout, I had the scare of my life. The cars in front stopped when it was their right of way, I stood on the brake but didn't stop! I suddenly realised I'd hit both throttle and brake and only some very quick thinking got me stopped in time.

It was another two years before I bent her properly and even then she drove away to fight another day.

My first car was a 15ish year old 1.6 Chrysler Avenger, inherited it from my parents who had upgraded to a 1961 land rover. Anyway, took it up the road and needed to turn right handed on to the busy main road. So I spot a reasonable gap, put it in gear and do a sporty pull away.... Only I had it in reverse There was a car full of OAP's coming up behind luckily they hadn't pulled up close, think they nearly died of heart failure. 2nd attempt I got it right, also sorted out the gate on the gear selector after that.

Love yours Flibb mate, classic - bet the people behind wondered what the hell was going on
I'm glad i'm not the only one who was abit worried about driving it for the first time. I've been really worried my dad will go into the back of it when I drive home because he'll expect me to go - he drives abit fast - so hope he's not looking for gaps for me and assuming I'll take them heh ( have to mention it to him )

My dad was like that when I followed him somewhere a while ago. At the end of my road he took a "small gap" in the traffic (We were turning right... Doubly annoying) so I was left there waiting and managed to get about 10 cars behind him already

For the amount they cost i would never choose it if it wasnt for the insurance reasons, could buy a much nicer car for the money - try getting it insured at 17 with no ncb's etc though - good luck!

Howard - I can so see that happening - espically at the end of our road, we live in dunstable, if you havent driven through it - your very, very lucky

    Russ, car was £4800

    2003 52 plate 1.2 corsa comfort - comes with abs/air con/pas/central locking etc it's a manual obviously 13000 miles
