    FTO Woes

Mate of mine has had an exhaust nightmare on his FTO.
As a result we've been hunting high and low for a CAT back replacement but the best we've done is £329incVAT new for a Mongoose.
While we're watching all sorts of eBay offerings his budget of £250 keeps getting blown out.

    Q1
Any suggestions on where else to look?

    Q2
Are Blue Flame exhausts any good?

    Q3
If by some miracle the Apexi N1 due up in 6days on eBay does squeeze under the price barrier will it be as loud as it looks?

    Lo

Firstly, your going to struggle to find a decent new stainless cat back xaust for under £300. They tend to all be £300 or over.

Q1 - Not really for that sort of price, ebay is your only bet all the other jap xaust are more expensive.

Q2 - If i recall blue flame are made by the same parent company as mongoose, theyre supposed to be very similar/same as mongoose but cheaper. So why not?

Q3 = Yes the Apexi will be as loud as it looks, probably louder if your not used to proper jap xausts. Apexi, HKS, Blitz etc are all pretty damn loud, loud enough that if you DECAT you can end up getting black flagged from alot of race tracks for failing the noise test as you go round (thats usually for being over 95 - 100 desibels)

Have fun. FTO's are expensive to tune, but they sound nice

FTO Owners Clubs are ALWAYS the best place to look for something like this.

    www.ftooc.org
    http://www.mitsubishi-fto.org
    http://www.myfto.co.uk/

This is how a BlueFlame exhaust will sound (copy paste link to browser/WMP or won't work). http://www.angelfire.com/dragon2/ftogr/MVI_1067.wmv

Also BlueFlame make exhausts for Mongoose and CamSkill, as opposed to the other way around.

owners clubs are usually the best place to look for anything! I got a back box (scorpion) in perfect condition for my quattro for £100 inc postage, though for £300 you can *almost* look at getting one made!

Thanks for all the above! Damn usefull, and yes, damn loud too
Interesting about the Blue Flame/Mongoose connection, that's my lesson for today.

Fortunately my partner in crime has managed to dig up a standard non-stainless part s/hand for £95 inc delivery. He's extremely happy as this means he's not spent all the funds he intended to spend on the new wheels he's been after for weeks! lol

Sods law says it'll still go wrong as he's been having one of those weeks but fingers crossed!

    Thanks all!

Ive heard fairly good things about blueflame on MR2's, personally i'd get one custom made. Thats what i did on my car - full system and decat, looks like HKS super drager, looks and sounds good (IMO) and cost around 350 i think.

    Thanks for the further advice.
He's had the price confirmed of £95 for the standard part s/hand from a front-ended FTO. Was offered the whole shebang but passed it up. The savings are going to a new dash facia (the current one melted after he reattached an airfreshner upside down!) and possible a CAI kit he's all of a sudden got his eye on! lol
