    New TVR!

    After the nightmare that was Smolensky's tenure in charge, the brand has been revived with this:



    They're reviving the Griffith name again, although it appears to be a hardtop, not a convertible.

    It's got the 5.0 litre V8 from the Mustang, additionally fettled by Cosworth. 400bhp per tonne, 0-100 in 6s. Looking forward to seeing a review...

    Apparently the launch edition is £90k, but subsequent versions will be £60-70k. Not sure what you get in the launch edition that you don't later...

    To be a proper TVR it needs to be dangerously fast & difficult to control at speed. This danger is countered by the fact it'll break down & have bits fall off every 5 minutes so it won't be going fast for long anyway.

    I hope that's 0-100mph and not kph, otherwise that's dire.

    Looks a bit like a BRZ.

    Wonder if they have changed the assistive technologies. I only know one person who's owned one and yes, he put it in a hedge and wrote it off.

    Can't seem to quote, but I think with 400Bhp per ton, that time is going to be for MPH.

    I once had a go in a T350 at a racetrack, and the instructor told me that the way not to end up in a hedge is to brake, then change gear once you're at the required speed, otherwise, if you try to use engine braking, you're sending 400bhp through the rear when you're trying to slow down, so of course you're going to spin... It seems a lot of TVR drivers were not told this when they bought them...

    think you slgihtly miss understood what he meant, or possibly your instructor was way off chalk

    engine braking doesn't put any positive power through the rear wheels, as you don't have the throttle open. Hence not 400bhp.

    what it DOES do is slow the car down via the back wheels, which is like using just the handbrake, and on a quick car with a high compression ratio, which that T350 has (11.8:1 I think), the engine braking is immense..... hence the potential to spin.

    All track day instruction should involve getting you to slow with the brakes in a straight line before any real turn-in occurs. It keep the driver and instructor safe, stops the cars wearing out from being over revved by miss slotted gear boxes and as you allude.. stops people spinning off. And it's good practive tbh.

    350's arse happy at the best of times... so were nearly all the TVR's ever made

    Also people who are new to track driving often just slip the clutch on a downshift which can lock the rear wheels up, especially if they're trying to shift quickly.

    The correct method is to brake hard and use heel-toe to shift into the next gear down without lots of clutch slip.
