Re: Favourite oils and lubes :-)

Sewing machine oil and specialist bearing oil for my fishing reels. 3in1 and WD40 for light jobs, loctite copper lube as a stick for brake pads etc
The stick makes so little mess in comparison to a tub and you can get a nice thin layer with no wastage

No love for PTFE spray? Seems ok so far on my hinges/locks/3d printer rods/bearings.

I used to use it in models but for most of my uses it seems ... weak, easily displaced or worn off.

I just got some of this: MUC-OFF C3 CERAMIC
It makes a noticeable difference on the bike - much less effort to get everything moving. Also a fan of copper slip, as it's fantastic to stop brake pads squealing in the wet.

Copperslip from a brand or generic?

I've recently swapped back to WD40 on items that get rained on as it seems to last longer than the GT85.

And I honestly have an overriding love of 3in1, the original.

(bear in mind that WD40 own GT85 AND 3in1 but they are entirely diff products frm different mixing systems)
Comma "Release Oil" far better then any WD40 i've found....

    Current stash

WD40, everyone has a tin right?
Plus Gas, I got this to do the glow plugs on mine and the wife's car and have used it on lots of other nuts as well including exhaust nuts that survived!
WD40 Dry lube PTFE spray to do the cup holders in the 535d, also put a bit on the stair gate that had started to make a noise and it silenced that!
A very old tin of halfords spray grease, it is grease in an aerosol and has plenty of uses.
Servisol switch cleaner, it's a lube after all.
Graphite powder for the door locks but will give the PTFE tin a go on the locks next.
Epson printer oil, it's a nice thin oil as an alternative to lithium grease.
    lithium grease.
Ceramic brake grease instead of copper slip, still got some copper slip though.
    Castrol red rubber grease

Probably have others but I can't remember

Engine oil, I go for branded stuff that meets LL04 for the BMW and the Mini.

For door hinges, I like using white lithium grease as it doesn't attract dirt.

wtf? Surely only the americans? But if you go back to old British chemistry textbooks you can find them riddled with talk of sulfates, sulfites and the like. The English is sulphates, and these days I think the proper chemistry nomenclature is to apend the oxidation state to differentiate between different forms of sulphur oxide rather than spelling. However move to other industries (concrete) for example and you will still find the older system clinging on. :|
