VW still won't fess up to Emisson Fix impacting cars performance

    https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-vo...-idUKKBN1K711D

they still won't tell anyone what is clearly gonna occur.. if you cut the emmissions the car's gonna go slower.

But it added that: “Volkswagen has not provided a full and clear guarantee that the update is not affecting the cars’ performance and has refused to simplify the conditions giving access to the Trust Building Measure.”
I think it's time someone with a brain said "if it won't affect performance, why didn't they just use this and not cheat"? cos it's so obvious.... it kills me.

Not just performance. Reliability as well. There seems to have been a large spike in EGR failures shortly after the "fix"

In fact, any 2009-2013 VW 4 cylinder engine seems to be worth avoiding. From Chain tensioners failing on the petrols and the diesels breaking after having their emissions "fixed"

Not only performance, but also mileage. There's a significant drop in MPG associated with their fix.

Given how in the US they seem to be handing out jail time over this farce, it isn't exactly surprising that a company that started off lying is now keeping it's mouth shut. VAG baring their souls in an outpouring of information just doesn't seem likely

there's a reason my car is not going anywhere near a VW/Skoda dealer's garage. I simply don't have the money to shell out £800 for a new exhaust re-circ valve that apparently clog-up and break after the "fix". My mileage is so low, and non-city driving, that I'm not harming anyone by not getting the fix. Passed the new MOT with flying colours. Once the suspension coil was replaced that is. Stupid potholes

    £800??? Is that a typo?

The EGR went in the Alfa I had previously. I bought a new one for about £30 from some online parts vendor and fitted it in 10 minutes, and that's in a marque famous for expensive parts and being hard to work on!

I afterwards found out that the activation solenoid clogs up in that valve, so an hour of time and a bit of drilling to dismantle the solenoid (you need to make a hole to drive it out of the case) and I could have just cleaned it.

Is it possible to make a low emissions diesel, because I have never believed that it should be used anything other than for haulage vehicles. I think it's probable that diesel and lead in petrol(only banned here after many other countries had), has caused all our younger generation and us many health problems. Using hydrocarbons for propulsion is so last century!

no typo: this from the skoda forum:

I believe the EGR on the 1.6 TDi is only accessable from below with removal of exhaust and drive shafts and takes about 6 hrs book time? ... Dealer price is £900plus +VAT!!! If it is way cheaper than this be very wary it has been replaced. Is he a VAG/Skoda specialist? If he has proper VCDS he should be able to diagnose the source of the issues you are having.
Which correlates with the £700+VAT (north Scotland) price the guy I bought it from advised me at the time of purchase as the reason he hadn't had it done as he didn't fancy the risk (and likely cost) either. Taking the average of those, yup £800+VAT.

Outch! Mine was just under the plasic engine cover, other side of the engine so you had to be really careful not to drop the bolts and gaskets when taking them out. So common a job though someone had done a handy step by step pdf guide!
