    Timing Belt - mk4 Astra

Anyone wanna have a guess at how much the Vauxhall dealers want to charge for parts and labour to do the timing belt on a mk4 1.4 16v Astra.

£93 + VAT for parts, belts, tensioner, idler...

    And £97 for labour!

I didnt think it was too bad.... I got quoted £344 inc parts/labour to do the timing belt from my local Renault dealers on my Megane 1.6 16v.... I politely told them to sod off.

So £200 ish can get the timing belt done on the Astra... not a bad price! What'd ya think?

Makes a change for a dealer to come up with a sensible price...........

Don't think thats bad at all myself, I've seen some ludicrous quotes for other vehicles, think the worst was BMW servicing can't remember how much it was though exactly.

euphoria- I have a Mk1, and it was at a place in Welling, SE London called Car Tech. They're a Toyota specialist though.

Zak, I don't think the engine bay of a Mk1 is particularly tight TBH, although it's probably a slightly more difficult job than some since it's a twin cam.

Hmm lucky gits, got a timing chain on the datsun not a belt, so it lasts for ages, but when it does need replacing, its an engine out job (but thats ok as generally by the time the timing chains gone, so is the rest of the engine)

Could be worse, you could own a Fiat Coupe and need the cam belt done...

My mate fancied one a while back (either a Coupe or a Brava HGT) and was told a full service (with belts) was £1500 iirc as they have to more or less take the engine out to do it! :eek. I seem to remember the HGT being a much more reasonable £800...
