    2005 Holden Vectra won't start!

Hi my mate has recently purchased a 2005 Holden Vectra 2.2L and it won't start. The dashboard lights up all the lights come on but it's not cranking or switching over, it's just nothing like no sound. There's also a padlock light that pops up on the dashboard, what does this light mean? If it isn't the transponder in the key what else could it be? Help please if you can or know anything about these cars.

Have you changed the battery in the fob (if it has a battery)

Padlock will be immobiliser issue, check the fuses perhaps?

    Is this an Australian car?

Hi and welcome to you (New Zealand I think, not Aus)

Do this one item at a time - all the dead simple silly things that DO cause hearthache

Is it an Auto? Auto''d wont start in gear, make sure its in Park
Does it need a hand brake of some sort on to start?
Is it a Manual ? DOes it need to have the clutch down?
The padlock clearly implies security of some sort - try a spare key if you have one, and replace the battery in the keyfob too.

Weak battery. Enough to power the dash but not to crank.

Did your mate nick it or receive from someone else who did? If so it'll probably be due to the imobiliser kicking in. It's antitheft technology and you'll need the manufacturer's help to reset it. That's the whole point.

Its unlikely if that was the scenario that they are going to actually give a proper answer to your question.
