You are not the only one to think that they are not very quick and quite bloated. Thats why you can get a half decent one for under 4k And 0-62 is 6.9 on the 2.2 v-tec. A lot of them seem to have been modified though, so they are recognised by the enthusiasts. And then there's the fact its a v-tec

They also handle very well apparently and being a honda will be reliable. With 5k you should be able to go for the next generation too.

I am thinking of one for my next car, although now that pesky xsara is in the running too, simply because its so cheap.

Don't they have some kind of rear wheel steering thing going on? Or did I just make that up?

Yes they do. It helps tighten the turning circle at low speed and to keep the car pointing forward at high speeds. Might take a bit of getting used to, but can't see it as a problem. I have been looking into preludes (reviews, owners experiences, etc.) but not seen any evidence of the rear wheel steering going wrong. I was initially concerned that it will make things more complex and less reliable, but it doesn't appear this way.

Honda made a big thing about the rws but most fwd cars for at least the last ten years have had some sort of passive rear wheel steering tendencies.

Well it turns one way when its going slow (opposite to fronts) and another (with fronts) when its going fast. I am guessing normal cars don't do that.

being a Vtec you will have to give it plenty of juice to get the power out of them

that said , they do have cool dashboards

I think I saw a nice one going the othe day on the SXOC.

Not true, I think the 2.2 lude's have the H22 in which has loads of torque and a relatively low red line of 7500rpm (most vtec engines rev well above 8k), making them better for real world driving...

    I sit corrected

I'd be intrested to see where in the rev range they proudce max torque / power though.

    Probably 7499 RPM.

That one on the SXOC is a bargain tho - £1600 quid! You know its going to be ultra reliable, its a VTEC they dont go wrong and honda has figures to prove it

I actually prefer the MK2 prelude to the MK3 (boggle eyed thing a la Impreza). My old man had a Prelude MK2 and the thing cornered like it was on rails, seriously quick through the twisties.

Not as quick as his CTR but its still a very quick car, just don't be doing too much shopping as the boot is hardly worthy of such a name. I also think im right in saying that Honda has never had a recorded VTEC engine failure, which in itself breeds confidence.

Great jap pedigree and still a timeless shape (imo) which isn't parked on every other drive down your street.

i respect just about all the honda's and your right ozzy they havent recorded a vtech related failure which sounds good !

and im sure most if not all of there cars use double wishbone suspension all round , atleast the old crx's did ?

Shad has kindly posted a few pics of my car on his website if he wants he can give out the link here for people to have a wee look as its not my website or bandwidth

Hasn't honda claimed that not one vtec system has failed since they started making them in the 80's?
