Who's got more skill - F1 drivers or WRC Drivers?

I'll keep quiet for now.. but is it the breakneck pace of F1 with the absolute consistency that amazes you? Or do you think being able to throw a car around sideways in all conditions with someone else rabbiting at you non stop is the more tricky and skilled?

    You decide!

First off Lowe, Great poll idea.

For me Skill has to be rally drivers. We're talking soo many other factors can cause them problems and over real terrain they drive over very small amounts of time has to be the most skillful driving out there.

I'd dare to say that F1 drivers have to have an awful lot more physical capability to take the higher G's, and physical excertion placed on their bodies over the course of a grand prix.

I think a lot of the skill of F1 is purely down to practise and familiarisation, only a few seconds seperates the really skilled who can push the car to the edge from those drivers that are simply there because they can afford to be, whereas rally drivers, the speeds they reach in forests and on cliff edges is far more terrifying than anything I've ever seen on an F1 track.

those guys have summed it up really.

rallying is, quite literally flying by the seat of ya pants, on the limit, living by the pace notes.

F1 drivers may have higher g's, but they don't get battered around the bumps as much. And while the grand prix is very tough, especially when its hot, it takes about 2 hours to do. Albeit non-stop. I don't think it requires quite as much concentration though. When I try to play Richard Burns Rally after a couple stages I just can't keep the concentration up. Even the second stage is getting tricky.
On the other hand f1 drivers have to overtake each other and defend their position, which require extra skill.

Still giving my vote to rally drivers though.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.

Each requires a different set of skills. I would say they were equally challenging and demanding sports.

Rally gets my vote - far more variables to deal with, whereas an F1 driver knows pretty much what to expect for the race duration.

I'd say there's not much in it TBH, they're different skills. I've been in a WRC car (at MIRA, not through a forest) and it felt crazily fast, but an F1 car weighs about half as much and has nearly three times the power....I can barely imagine what that must be like. Driving something that fast while having to recalibrate your cornering speeds to take advantage of downforce etc. must take a hell of a lot of skill. I suspect it'd take me a long time to get used to the idea of cornering harder at 150 than 50....

I agree that they can't be compared - a single minor mistake can lose a Grand Prix, whereas relatively large deviances from the 'ideal' line are expected in WRC due to the nature of the track / lack of practice laps etc and are incorporated into a winning performance.

Pretty difficult to compare. If you lock up your front wheel, for ages your seeing blurred vision as the flat spot goes around and around.

Rally drivers are living by the pace notes, they have trust in there co-driver. It's a 2 man affair in WRC though. 2 men driving the car.

I'd have to go with F1. It's close, but F1 nicks it.

That video is 10 times more impressive than any F1 drive I've ever seen.
