M4 cameras are having an effect

Not exactly a positive one though judging by this...

    Road Incident
M4 Closed between J18 and J19 in Westbound direction.
M4 Overturned vehicle(s) between J14 and J15 in Westbound direction.
M4 Overturned vehicle(s) between J15 and Membury Services in Eastbound direction.
M4 Queuing traffic between J18 and J19 in Westbound direction.

Rumour has it that at least one of those was caused by panic braking.

    From an official "inside" source.

    Certainly figures tho, eh?

This is always the trouble with cameras, no matter where they place them.

Cameras dont stop people speeding, they just stop people speeding past the camera and as such, there is always the risk that if someone sticks the anchors on hard, a "not so observant" driver will run into the back of them.

Still, I spose the whole point of this is that had the person not been speeding in the first place, there would be no need to have "panic braked".

Bit of a "6 of one, half a dozen of another" situation I spose.

I guess that's why they're trying the two camera set up, where they're miles apart, so it measures your average speed between the two points - sneaky!

but people will still slam their brakes on as they approach the first camera.
