in case ya didnt know, its more economical to turn aircon on than open a window in most cars

I really wish people who don't have aircon/do not understand it would shut the hell up about opening windows.

Air Conditioning systems chill and condition the outside air, before releasing it into the cabin. Opening a Window does none of these things - opening a window takes hot, sticky, smoggy air from outside the car, and puts it inside.

    Thankyou.

donny - it wastes more opening a window

i actually prefer 'fresh' air to 'aircon' air - even if its been thu the car vent system - i find aircon air too 'dry', so i always leave it off when driving a car with it

We'd save more fuel by reducing speed bumps, traffic lights, and all those barmy traffic management schemes that are designed to slow traffic down artificially.
But they wouldn't care about that. Cars are bad. Bad, bad, bad. And we should be flogging our own backs with branches for the sin of wanting to drive.

Well as with most things, there's two sides to the story. At motorway speeds, it's probably true that using aircon uses less extra fuel than opening a window. Around town though, especially in heavy traffic, that's definitely not true. Pop on the aircon when the car is idling and see the engine stutter- engines are not running at anywhere near peak efficiency at idle speeds and I'm sure that the AC would increase fuel consumption considerably.

Anyway my car doesn't have AC so it's all a bit irrelevant to me anyway. I must say that I always appreciate it a LOT in Spanish hire cars though.

granted, but the other solution to slow cars down is speed cameras. and everyone winges even more about them
