Some assistance required

OK got a 1.8 Ford Focus Zetec. Pics are in the What car you drive thread which is pinned.

Anyways just had it serviced. The car has been lowered a little, but at around 80mph the car resonates quite a bit, hit past 85mph and it settles down, so any ideas what it could be?

I have a feeling the shocks might need changing ... was gonna uprate them to Koni with springs at some point. They still have the default Ford shocks. The front Springs are Einbach (I think) no idea what the back are, they are red if that helps! Also the steering wheel shudders a little bit at 60+, checked the bablance of the front tyres and they are fine.

Any thoughts?

Be tempted to get the front suspension looked at - Bottom arms and strut mountings;

Lowered springs on standard shocks = Not ideal.

How resonant is 'quite a bit'? On every surface?

Probably look to the roadwheels first. Tyre balance/quality/condition normally causes the sort of buzzing resonance without altering the feel of the car.

The whole car seems to shudder. The front balance is fine, worth checking the backs then?

Frot wheels unbalanced will make the whole car shake

But the fronts are fine balance wise.

How do you know? A symptom of wheel's being unbalanced is always that depending on how unbalanced they are, they will wobble and judder more or less at different speeds. You may get judder at 80, but not 90 or 70. Classic symptom of wheels being unbalanced.

Get them checked out first (and i dont mean in quick fit!) before you spend any money in a garage.

D'oh you mentioned the place where I did get them checked as I was driving past, didn't charge though. I'll give my mechanic mate a buzz ...

BTW as a sideline, should I uprate the shocks as well? I think it might be best. The mods were in place when I got the car. I don't think the current shocks are good enough. Would Koni be the best choice?
