... I know this is an old thread but:
Surely if you use Optimax (Petrol) or BP / Shell Deisel ALL THE TIME then these should have enough cleaners / good fuel quality that you shouldn't need to use things like Redex?
I know some people suggest occassionally using the more expensive fuels, but wouldn't it be better in the long run to always use the better fuels?
After the stories about cheap supermarket fuel and all the broken cars, and my friend's car breaking after he filled up at the local Texaco, I've generally decided to only fill up at Shell or BP...
I'm still tempted to use redex though in the vague hope that it will clean any gunk in there.

yep, last time I used redex I didn't get the big billowing smoke trails down the road, use optimax the whole time.
Nox
i've got a 1.8 Petrol Freelander and about a month ago used some Redex.. the 2 tankfuls prior to Redex managed average 27 & 28 mpg.. after managed 30 & 32mpg.. and since then been consistent in the 30's. And thats based on my daily commute of 45 miles each way, at the same times and same roads..
and considering that regular is 86.9 at my local Morrisons, and Shell Optimax is 92.9 at the nearest Shell is 6p a litre different... based on 45 litres each fillup is £2.70 per tank... a bottle of Redex is only £6.99 that will do 4 tankfuls.. So I could use Regular unleaded and Redex and still save £3.81 on the equivalent Optimax.
i'd definately say its worth giving Redex a go.. whats the worse that can happen!
