Dumped the Laguna for a couple of days in favour of my sisters L reg Defender 110 TDi . Had a couple of jobs to do on it and i need to put a few miles on it so why not, been having a laugh so far but i feel i need to go and find some mud somewhere...

Dont forget to wave at other LR's, dont bother with Range Rovers unless they are the classic shape, or Discoverys unless they have a snorkel, are chopped, or have a winch.

Hehe, the muddiest place i can think of would be the local car boot sale on a sunday morning, bloody 'car park' turns into a bog if its damp . £5 a go they charge to tow people out...i'll have to charge £4...i'll soon have my own Landy...

You need to be up a quiet lane somewhere, with a farmers fields to one side that are only accessible up a steep slope.

Get ya self to the bottom of the slope.

/wonders if Landrovers still have Low Range Selectors, but ploughs on regardless

Select low range. And select 4x4. Select 1st.

Bring clutch up slowly until fully up and allow engine to TICK OVER and pull you up slope

Once at very top, gently apply foot brake, while pushing clutch in.

Select reverse.

Trust Zakky

Bring clutch up in reverse slowly and as you feel it bite, take foot ALL THE WAY OFF BRAKE.

DONT PANIC.

Allow engine to tke you down backwards WITHOUT PUSHING CLUTCH IN.

Once back down on flat, push clutch in

Disengage 4x4

When we had a little suzuki samurai we found the little fields around stansted airport were some of the best. There was a lane you used to be able to go down which let you go right down the side of the runway (Few 100ms away) and had some nice embankments.

Also another place the other side of the runway which was just a big muddy/gravelly empty space with some nice mounts/banks

Zakk's not fair off in his description, 110's do still have low range selectors as far as I know, last one I was in had one at any rate, letting the engine "walk" you down a steep hill is brilliant tbh

Well, i dropped the hint about how much fun it was and my sister agreed it was rattly, noisey but excellent fun. She also said that she wants a 110 County so theres room for everyone in it...hopefully this one will come my way as a freebie (keep on servicing those cars!) but i might need to wait 12 months...

Modern ones, (90's, 110's Defenders etc) all have permanent 4x4... and a centre diffrential lock. They still have low boxes (even the new Range Rover has a hi-lo selctor ) It's the Series vehicles that you gotta mess about with 2x4, 4x4 and diff locks in
