Red Bull commit to F1 until 2012

I personally like watching the political wrangling that goes on in F1, but at the moment i feel that behind the scenes there is an awful lot of stuff happening at the moment. Talks of driver strikes over safety and now with the announcement that Redbull will be using Ferrari engines next year we see Redbull commit to f1 till 2012.

But I know what i'd be doing if i was ferrari and tying redbull into F1 with them is a good ploy, but i feel maybe this move and the other things going on could spell a bad sign for things to come....

8 vs 2 makes things an awful lot easier to cause problems for the other teams, and hence i think we're just going to get a nightmare of political mess...

It would be a shame if their was a split championship, it just wouldn't be the same. I doubt that gonna happen tho, the F1 brand is worth quite a lot to those teams. The politics in F1 seem so petty.

Wonder if the alliance of Red Bull and Ferrari will meam Schuey and DC will become friends.
You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?

To be honest TiG, I get more worried about the technical changes than I do anything else. The political mess I think will sort itself with 4 or 5 of the bigger teams making a joint decision (probably to Bernie imo) and then that will be the end of it.

I don't want to see V8's in Formula 1 however.

Yeah well thats all within the same thing, politics. The whole thing is going to be used as a petty spat between them.

I'm not so sure it will finish any time soon, and i have to admit i hope it doesn't, I hope Max Mosely and Bernie get dropped from it all..

F1 should be the fastest event, v8's are expected to be 2 seconds a lap slower than GP2 cars!!....

Autocar recently published an interview with Max after the US GP fiasco. Despite my own better judgement I ended up completely understanding his standpoint and in fact primarily agreeing with it!

However I do get the feeling there are now two distinct threads to the future of F1. I believe it comes down to two seemingly incompatible scenarios, either:

    1. The focus is on technological advancement and the pushing back of boundaries.

    or

    2. The focus is on driver skill and ability.

Max wants the second option but is trying to add an element of comprimise to allow some future innovation. The teams clearly would like innovation, or indeed anything to get on the top rung of the ladder.

I'm afriad for those who dislike the idea of V8's in F1 it's inevitable and most likely in tens years (assuming it still exists) V6's or electric power. Why? Simply because the engineers are so stunningly good at their jobs that they inevitably build engines too powerful for the circuits they have to race on. The only way to peg them back is give them less to work with in the first place!
So it's a problem generated by the fact it is such a well-funded, technologically advanced sport.

Oh and for the record I'd love to see V12's again and none of the other namby pamby VSmall's. Maybe a capacity limit of 1.5l?
Of course this means high-revving, more stress and no doubt more cost .... so we won't be seeing it anytime soon!!!

Definately lots of deals going on behind closed doors. I imagine this will all die down again soon and then the mass exchange of drivers will no doubt begin!

A British driver at Ferrari? No more Michael Schumacher? Spanish world champion? Indy 500 winner in F1? V8 engines that are only a couple of seconds slower than existing V10's? Some of it sounds crazy but it could all be true by next year, you just don't know in F1.

IIRC.. the Honda engine that Williams used when Mansell and Patrese were driving for them was a 1500cc V4.... of course it had stupid amounts of turbo-age....
