    Car Suggestions???

Got 10kish tops to spend. Maybe.. Ain't decided if I am going to get a new car yet. I would like somthing a bit pokey but not stupid, and must be able to seat 4 people ideally. Also don't want anything you see 5 of a day, or anything assosiated with boy racers or rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishs, and not above group 17 insurance (Only 22)

    Current ideas:

    S-Type Jag 3.0L V6
    Toyota Celica 1.8 VVTLI (190BHP)
    Saab 9-3 Cabrio Aero HOT
    Accord Type-R
    Prelude 97 onwards 2.2

    Definate no's

    Scoobies
    Anything remotely unreliable
    Nova's
    BMW 3 Series
    Anything Girly

    Anyone got any interesting ideas???

    Talking

I was joking with Novas... There was that 10k one floating around not so long ago.

    Golf.. Bland. Not interested.
Evo. Not too keen not sure looks wise.

    Audi A3 1.8 T Sport might be a possibility.

    Alfa GTV?

I bet Shad's suggestion will be an Alfa 147... good choice too.

A3s handle like a tortoise with a hangover imo, and the back seats are seriously hard to get out of (if you have many passengers, you need something that isn't a struggle of course)

My new Focus Ghia arrived last week just before I went into hospital. I managed to get a mornings worth of drive out of it, and I must say it's luvvverly. Still prefer the Golf MK3 TDi that had to go because of insurance costs

I think Alfas... Unreliable. Unless people can vouch otherwise.

    A3 off the list then.

Depends what you go for and how you want to define reliability. Alfas tend to require that you watch the car carefully over its life for problems; most, if left, get expensive and nasty. Cars made after 2001 are very well built (easily on par with German marques); the quality of plastics and leathers inside is very impressive.

Always important to buy anything Itallian with service history coming out the tail pipe. They need plenty of affection

There was an interesting column from Clarkson in Top Gear last month about car reliability. He made a very valid point that pretty much all new cars are just as reliable as each other on average. Plenty of people have endless problems with Subarus, VW's and BMW's to name but a few. Similarly I know many people who've had thousands of trouble free miles from their Alfa Romeos.

Buy something that makes you smile

Insurance premiums are going to be fantastic.

Avoid the Celica. They are gutless and too fadish.
You're 22, not 122. Take the Jag off the list.

Buy yourself something Japanese, and drive with a big grin on your face. Saving that, at a last effort, the Saab.

Ahh but the Jag gives some style and 0-60 in 6s is nothing to moan about. Just think about all the boy racers you could dispose of in your car that is 3 times the size of theirs. You could even look down on them from your fine Leather interior.

Obviously the wood trim would have to go. Nothing wrong with crusing around in style.

I would agree the 140bhp Celica is gutless, but the 190Bhp one manages 60 in 7.4s so not too slow and it's friendly on the pocket from an insurance and running cost point of view.

I agree with Japanese. My Accord has been fantastic. I do 13-15k a year, I need somthing that doesn't need attention very often, even better if it can last inbetween services untouched.

I'm just not sure what to get, nothing at the moment really stands out from the crowd and says BUY ME! Well... there is one, being hte new SAAB 93 convertible but at £28k it's a bit pricey.

10k would get you a reasonable skyline or a nission 200sx Silvia (s15 on import ) or a nice s14.

plenty of performance along with Jap Reliability

the S15 is a bit of a head turner - very unusual on the roads

You said no 3 series- how about a 7 series? Unbelievable amount of car for the money. Only 728 and 730 in group 17 though.

I'd be tempted by a Skyline, but you're looking at an oldish one of uncertain provenance.

    Lexus GS300? Merc C36AMG?

Until you find out where that 190bhp is actually avaliable. And you thought 600cc bikes needed to be revved hard!

'nother shout for a 200SX. Can't do wrong, and with £10k, you should be a decent one, and have enough pocket money left over to make it go a little bit quicker.

I have no idea what insurance groups these are:

    Chevrolet Camaro
    Lancia Delta Intergrale
    Audi Quattro
    Merc Sl
    Honda NSX

There, I managed to suggest a few cars without mentioning a certain small car once!
    Mini!!!!!

Don't dismiss the A3 just because someone says they handle like a tortoise with a hangover, also the front seats life forward so how can it be hard to get into the back?

Go out and drive one, they handle well, go well and look good.

Alfa 147s are also very nice cars

I sell Fiats for a living and see Alfas once in a while.

What about a Seat Leon Cupra or a Fiat Stilo Abarth?
