    Why?

How come most people seem to think that braking gets them out of problems...
There were at least 2 people on the way to work that were braking to let people onto the carriageway, yet if they'd just sped up slightly then they'd of been clear of the sliproad by the time the toher person had joined...

It's just the initial reaction I suppose. Moving to the middle lane is what most people seem to do when the carriageway is not busy which is nice and curteous

Yeah but if its 2 lanes and the other lanes busy then theres no move over option (unless your stupid/blind) but if u break then the car behind you does the same and you have a knock on effect.....

Yeah so you just keep going and speed up a bit if possible

You don't have to give way to them after all

God yeah, that annoys me as well. There's this slip road near where I work in Basingstoke that comes down a hill from a single carriageway and joins you on to the main ring road. The road it joins is just before a roundabout, so the traffic isn't very fast, and if you can get up to ~50 before the end you'll get into the road easily, as most other traffic is slowing down.
People still insist on treating it like a T-junction and stopping right at the bottom, meaning that joining the main road then becomes rather difficult because you can't just merge into the traffic without causing a hold up.

    Really gets on my nerves.

I saw someone in a Porsche 911 do that once. I was passing on the carriageway and I thought to myself "he's gonna absolutely gun it" and he did. Didn't cause a holdup cos those things have some serious acceleration

But yeah in lesser cars it might be more fun trying to join

In my opinion more people should fail their driving test for failing to make sufficient progress. Nothing irritates me more than dithering and unnecessary braking- even getting cut up by nobbers is less annoying IMO.

To be honest this and so many other parts of bad driving on the road is not down to anything apart from lack of observation. Speeding isn't bad on the whole until you have someone speeding and not paying attention and obeying simple laws of the road.

Not getting to close to the car infront, adapting your pace to suit road and traffic conditions.

I did a lot of miles over the weekend myself and its definitely more of a common occurance on the weekends with sunday/old men drivers.....

Mmmm, I agree with most of whats been said. If I can see a sliproad joining up ahead, I try to pull out to allow them in. If I can't it's easy to see whether I can speed up and let them in behind me, or slow down (not brake) just enough so they can slip in. By slowing down a little, they get to go, and my brake lights don't come on so the other drivers behind me don't panic.

There is nothing worse than the 40 drivers, who sit at 40 regardless of the road conditions- the people you can't overtake on a single lane A road are the same ones that almost take of your wing mirror as they fly down a narrow lane.

And those who go slowly enough to cause hold ups, but you can't pass them because they don't notice the queue of people trying to get past.

Know exactly the one you mean. Quite a poor design IMO as the visability isn't as good as it could be, and most people are in the left hand land because they want to either go into Old Basing or head east on the M3. Have found in the past I'll move into lane 2 to let someone out, only to not be let back in again to get in the right lane for the roundabout

I had a woman move over into the other lane the otherday to let me join, I accelerated to join the road and she nearly pulled back into the front of my car, she obviously hadnt checked her mirrors as the nose of my car was about level with her A pillar she just started drifting back into my lane, gave her a bit of the old horn n she jolted back into her lane, I slowed down to let her back in as she was now slowing cars down behind her n she just sat there in the outside lane looking over at me (and not looking where she was going) for a good 5 seconds, so I just stuck my foot down n undertook her...

You should see it in other countries. Went to france this summer and they NEVER let you off the slip road on a main road/motorway. You have to go up the breakdown lane to get in front then they're beeping their horns etc.

Crazy drivers in france, french cars should be built without horns

This will make you "laugh". A friend of mine's mum once moaned at him for driving 70mph down the sliproad. She said that he was speeding, and should do 40mph down the sliproad, and accelerate to 70mph once he's on the motorway.

Yes, the world is full of idiots

They do... I know some people who have... doesn't mean that they don't do it once they're left to their own devices though.
