getting stroppy about golf III stereo

hey guys -
we've just swapped cars with my g/f's mum - gone from a shiny new golf mk V. down to a 10 year old mkIII with b0rked stereo.
I've made it my saturday afternoon mission to get the antenna reconnected -you can only get Magic FM - tagline: "music to kill yourself by" , have it working through the ignition (rather than draining the battery if you forget to turn it off)

etc.

Anyone owned one and can give any hints on getting access to the wiring at the back of the stereo? Apparently the radio hasn't worked properly since she had the new stereo fitted when she bought the car new 10 years ago - considering the car I owned over 10 years ago was so straightfoward I installed all my new speakers, stereo and cd changer in the course of an afternoon - but then it was a japanese import into nz. this is a golf so bound to be more irritating.

yeah pull the stereo forwards. there might be 4 holes, 2 either end. shove something in each one (i use screwdrivers normally) to release the catches then jam your fingers in the tapedeck and pull towards you. stereo should just pop out.

if you wanted to upgrade (if its the stereo thats shot) - you can get a reasonable hu with cd/radio for about £30 on the bay, plus a tenner for a 'propper' golf wiring adapter
