    Exclamation Noisy Clio brakes

As my first car, i own a 1.2 R-reg clio. As I'm not hugely competent with cars I thought I'd see if anyone could pinpoint a problem I've got with the brakes. Every time I use it, especially if it hasn't been out for a couple of days, the brakes make a nasty grinding sound when I apply them, which doesn't go away until quite a way into my journey so i don't think it's just because it's been standing still. I had my brake pads replacd in August and am getting concerned about this. The actual brakes work fine but the noise is worrying, so before i book it in to my local garage I was wondering if anyone had had this problem before.
    Thanks.

It's it a coarse scratchy kind of sound or more of a vibration?

You will get a bit of flash rust when it's parked up (especially if it's exposed to the rain) but this should clear off with the first couple of gentle stops.

My first guess is to change the discs over on the front, they shouldn't be costing you much more than the pads on that car and can be done with a couple of spanners in half an hour.

Shouldn't 'grind' tho - at least not more than once and only if it's been raining. How are the discs? They're not warped are they or wearing unevenly?

I can answer this one for you straight off, i have an 04 reg clio and does the same thing if its been left over the weekend and then used. For me it was down to the driver side disc being warped. As already said you will most likely notice it more if left for a few days or its been raining.

New discs shouldn't set you back too much and it's pretty easy to fit - i'd say an hours labour tops (but then i've never done a clio)

Get the brakes checked. Doesn't take long and is just a case of whipping the wheel off for a look.

Yes they will grind a bit now the weathers wet, but only for the first couple of applications.

Could be a stone or something trapped in the caliper, could be the pads worn down or the disc may have an issue. But.. unless you take the wheel off and have a look you'll not know - can't diagnose stuff like this without looking.

Could also be there's some restricted movement due to age on the caliper (I assume it's a sliding type).

Whatever it is, shouldn't warrent having to pay a garage a lot to sort it.
