If the ARBs are too stiff the car will tend to cock its inside rear up in the air and unload the inside front. By stopping the car rolling on its suspension you make it roll more around the outside tyres.

Practical Performance Car are doing an ongoing series about suspension setup. Irritatingly I seem to have mislaid last month but one's issue which was the first in the series.

The stock CRX anti-roll bars are fine for track use.

    D2 springs are linear.

Going to begin with 620/350 lb/in f/r and swap to 730/620 if (when) I decide it's not stiff enough. The softer setup will no doubt be better for gaining track experience, although it will be far more understeery. As soon as I've got a trailer it's on with the harder springs.

However, I will change to Eibach springs and Ohlins dampers when I start competing. The D2s are really only for learning and a stop-gap.

Well, if you're going to be doing any sort of development work, I'd look to coilover with standard 2 1/4 coils; Why? Well, just because 730/620 works for one person, doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for you.
2 1/4 coils are pretty much industry standard and can be bought in pretty much all poundages, progressive and linear.
Springs are just one tiny part of hugely complicated picture; Don't expect results out of the box, and start trying to find a friendly 4 wheel alignment place (and a bloody good one at that).
Finally, check the regs of the class you'll be competing in with a fine tooth comb; the very last thing you need is to spend a small fortune developing a car to have it dismissed on a technicality.

just a thought - if you want a track car is a crx really the best option, or would you be better off selling it and getting a cheap westy/locost? it'd probably be more fun..

Debatable. Would be a bit of a cop out. I want to learn how to build a racing car myself

Only someone who's never driven a Mk2 CRX would come out with a comment like that

To be fair you're all giving me your answers to a question I didn't initially ask.

I've based my decisions so far on the opinions of about 4 different people, 2 of which currently run track day CRXs and one of which competes in the Britcar endurance championship. I respect what they have told me!

The plan is to begin work with the softer setup, learn a bit about what a change of X will do to the car, and eventually move on to a more sophisticated setup.

Anyway..... ordered my kit today, but going to wait for the new bushes and camber kits before fitting anything
