    before we take the punge...

... so, the TT's nearly sold on the 'Bay, and that means time for a Beetle TDi...

unless... anyone can recommed a car suitable for a 58 mile commute (mostly m/way) with a budget of £8K +/- £1k... it's gotta be frugal (hence TDi) and can't be 'normal' (Golf, 307 etc.) as it's for my missus and she's in fashion (as in, works in... not is in... )... some space would be useful too - we looked at Smart Roadsters, but they're tiny...

    ...any ideas???

Since you probably know beetles are just golfs i wont mention it, but i wouldnt buy one, the smart forfour perhaps? although probably not too great on the motorway. Alfa 147 with the 17" Super sport wheels, quite possibly the nicest wheels ever put on a production car. Maybe an older 911, although that wouldnt be so good on the frugal front. Although old cars are cool, whatever the one with the wood on the outside is, a mini traveller, morris minor, mk1 escort, all sweet looking.

A friend of mine has a Seat Leon TDi and is very chuffed indeed with it. Same engine, transmission, chassis, controls, touchyfeely bits as the Golf And Audi A3 but a considerable chunk of money less....

I'd vote for either the 406 Coupe Diesel or the Skoda Fabia vRS, both great looking, great going diesels.

406 Coupe is a superb idea...realyl very nice, huge rear leg room for that ilk of car, ok boot, and just the prettiest shape

If yuo can find a leather one, its worth it....the black metallic with red leather looks like the most stunning tool

    but quite quite rare!
