Turbo, Turbo, Turbo, Turbo, Turbo, Turbo

    ANNOUNCEMENT

I have fallen in love, hook line and sinker, with forced induction.

To whoosh....neigh.....to FLASH past traffic, with a mammoth pressure of hidden monster urge.

Hell...I never thought I' want a turbo car, except a diesel.

    But I was wrong.

With a HUGE gearbox ratio (97mph in 3rd) and monstrous globs of torque, huge bucket loads of it, vast tracts of hidden surge, mammoth mountains of vast pull and push.....

I can whoosh past virtually anything and everything AND get 33mpg out of it having saty in traffic for umpteen hours.

I'd like to salute Saab for making such beasts. I coulds NOT be more impressed, and I'm WELL pleased I got my first one as a top range beasty

But most of all I'd like to remove my hat, doff my virtual cap, to all those of you (Lowe, Moby, Butuz, Jiff to a certain extent, though he loves ALL cars) who knew the truth all that time ago.

My 210 bhp Thunderbird 1 is just frikkin awesome.

    AND it doesn't scrabble.

AND Hirsh do a further 40 bhp for it as a kit

    Don't just cam me.......

    FORCE ME

    Booooooo, turbos are cheating!!

210 hp from a nasp 4 cyl engine is a lot more impressive IMHO

Such as the Honda B18C6... but I'm biased because I'm buying one

Oh god yes, Saab turbos are just great.

My dad used to have a 9-5 Aero estate, which would just eat anything for breakfast. The sound of the turbo, the brief pause as the car seems to gird it's loins before launching itself down the tarmac. God, I miss that car. Sure, the new one has better gadgets and stuff, but the Saab made every trip an event.

Enjoy it while you can, they are great, great cars.

I gotta say summit else before it slips my mind.

The noise IS superb. The windows are down simply because as I change gear, the "cchhhh--tissss" is driving me wild

    And its SO DAMN FAST!

Not quick, not like a 106 GTi. Or an Impreza.

    Fast. Like a Viggen

    I am jealous

I've always liked Saabs. I was next to one on a dual carriageway (Think it was a 9-3 Aero) when it flew past me guns blazing, the noise was loverly

Thing is, if it's all smooth and progressive then it isn't really a turbo is it...
Half the fun is the lag lag lag then WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Modern turbos are quick, but without the edgyness of the 80's varients. I guess the modern ones are faster overall since they're not so much of a handful, but it's that that gives the turbo cars of the 80's era their character.

If you like turbo noises, then you would of loved the Clio GTT Zak. RIP baby

Then of course there's 'proper' boosting through superchargers as used in Jags and Mercs! By the way, isn't the Honda S2000 engine the most powerful N/A engine around? I think it pushes out around 240BHP but has to be revved very high to achieve that power output.

I remember my first turbo car, the Renault 5 GT Turbo back in the 80's, with it's 1.4L engine and go-kart fun! It was a company car so I could really cane it!

the s2000 might have the best power/capacity ratio, but its sure not the most powerful overall (and thats not including rotary engines..)

its funny these days, that due to dual turbos and lpt, most turbo cars drive like na cars of old, yet most tuned na cars (with vtec, or whatever the system is branded by your manuf) drive like the old turbos, with a kick up the arse at a certain rpm..

i'm still blown away by mitsu being able to get 200bhp/litre out of a production engine.. *thats* impressive. i remember the first 'normal' cars to get 100bhp/litre (volvo did one, a 2l, 16v turbo with 210bhp, in 1985.. nach)

Ford got 100BHP/L 2 years earlier
    Ferrari got 142 BHP/L 1 year earlier.
I'm sure someone else beat ford to 100BHP/L
High HP/L isn't dificult at all. Reliable High HP/L without silly servicing is more so
