confused in making choice for first Car

What car should i choose? Im 18 have no, no claims bonus. Have around 3000-4000K But this must include insurence for a year. im not a tiny guy neither so no ford feista( not enough leg room + my frames to bulky for it) i don't wan't anything too good. just a car to last me couple of years. i was looking at a SEAT IBZA.minimum of 1.2 Petrol as well.

Im just looking for a bargin+longivtivity (SP)

well i think that the ibiza would be an ok choice but for cars that arnt new its worth looking at the price they cost to fix and also insurance groups, i had a fiesta for my first car lol, they arnt that small tbh , but the good thing about ford and vauxhall and such is that they are cheap to fix and get parts for unlike renult and citroen which are more, your looking at insurance at about 1200 so id go with mayb a corsa 1.2, or a newer fiesta 1.3 as they are cheap to fix and are ok all round .

Enough space inside, and the same age car even tho larger, will cost the same as a small car.

You could go for a w reg Polo.

You can get a 1.4 for about 4k (including insurance if you find the right car).

I've had mine for 3 years now and it's never ever let me down, wonderful car. All I've done is added some alloys and done the sound system (nothing chav, just a good quality H/U and some nice Focal speakers that were £180 :|).

And I am a BIG guy and I fit fine.

I was Thinking my usual VAG, and I have to recommend (again) Skoda Octavia.

Damn Cheap, And as long as you avoid the smallest engine, there a fine drive as well. Autotrader throws up a "1999 SKODA OCTAVIA 1.8 20V SLXi 5dr Hatchback, " for £2400, and with it not being the GTis Turbo it'll be alright on the insurance. Nice big car, and probobly a lot newer than the mondeo/vectra that would come into the price bracket.

Problem is if you're 18 you're going to get literally murdered (They will come and kill you, they really will) on insurance on a 1.8.

My polo is group 2 and It cost me £1400 to get my first years insurance and that was three years ago.

So they will offer insurance but on the proviso that they get to kill you.

In response to Blackmage, No. High Mileage isn't the burden it used to be, as long as it's been serviced regular then it'll give little trouble (hopefully)

Bloody hell, how big are you? I'm 6ft or so (34 leg, or something like that) and I could put my fiesta seat back far enough to make it hard to reach the pedals.

Know that one, had plenty of kees jammed in my back. Even in the sierra my drivers seat back is well behind the pillar to get comfortable.

Can't get my knees the right side of the steering wheel on a corsa. The dewoo matiz was always a laugh, if I put the seat back far enough, I couldn't reach the gearstick.

Yet I can just about manage an exige.

I've been learning to drive in my dads Ford Fiesta - I'm 6ft 1" (possibly 6ft 2"), and my knee's are hitting the steering wheel, it is hard to get in and out of the car too (even with the seat far back and steering wheel lifted up).

I'm not fat either, just a big guy.

Edit: Also, yeah fiesta size in the back is awful, my dad doesn't have the seat all the way back in the car but I still find it painful to sit in the back.

get a big car with a small, or diesel (ie underpowered) engine. it'll handle higher miles better and be more fun for having 5 of ya in it. dont worry about style so much - when you're 17 any car is going to mean you have an awesome time

Peoguot 306 5-door tdi would be a nice car, or Focus or Astra would come in at that price, 2000-1 models TDi's.

5-door would give OK room for your height without going all the way to a Mondeo or Vectra, which will be a bit sluggish TBH.

Advantage of Ford and GM is you'll get cheap parts.
