    Unhappy Me car's broke. :'(

Blummin thing won't start. Seems to be plenty of juice in the battery, but when you turn the ignition there's no click from the starter.. nothing.

I'm guessing it's either the immobilser or the starter motor. I wish it were neither cos it's chucking it down and they're both evil, evil jobs.

    Anyone else got any ideas?

Had similar problem myself a few weeks ago Lowe, would turn the key and could hear the solanoid clicking but the starter motor didn't engage. Tapped the motor with a hammer and it started, but it died the next day. £30 for a new (reconditioned) starter motor, but got someone else to do it cos it's an arse to get at (at least it is in the Energy engine, dunno about yours).

Starter motor is in a near inaccessible place. Still managed to tap it with the end of a screwdriver and it fired. Despite this I'm leaning towards it being battery related at the moment. Gonna change the battery next weekend and see how it goes. If it does it again... well, new starter motor time.

If you cant get to the starter, just stick the car in third gear and rock it backwards and forwards.

took me 20 mins to change the starter on the wifes clio, so i don't think it can be that bad - and it's (relatively) cheap too at least

and from what it souns like, it's what you need - does the thing bump-start (not jump-start) ok, and hold charge? if so, you don't need a new battery

Your wife's Clio doesn't have a turbo, induction kit, boot hoses and heatshield in the way....

It's holding charge ok - if anything it's putting a little too much charge into the battery hence why I'm going to give it a go. The first time it turned over it was very slow. After running a short while then trying again it was fine starting..

Don't be fooled Leave it over night and then see if it'll start again. I'd be surprised if it were your battery. My money's still on the starter motor
