Cosworth are a nice example, the F1 engines and road going engines come off the same lines made by the same staff. But it's small scale, not really applicable to a few thousand staff making a living bolting vehicles together. At the other end of the scale, there was output the Ford Dagenham plant to contend with.Originally Posted by Shad

Got to admit I'm pretty disgusted by Badass's comment. Cars like the Lotus Elise/Exige, TVRs, Nobles, Bowlers (Sporty Car ) and they show no sign of breaking. 13 Bowlers competed in the Paris-Dakar last year, and 11 Finished. Now if that isn't reliable I don't know what is.

No, I said *managed* by Renault. In response to the comment about poor British management. There was also a question mark there as I couldn't remember if it was Nissan or Toyota. And managed doesn't mean it'd inherit technology either does it, it means....well... managed.Originally Posted by Butuz
You didn't just put TVR in the 'well made' category did you?Originally Posted by hitman67
TVR's have actually improved loads in the last couple of years with their build quality. They no longer smell like solvents inside . Seriously though, the newer TVRs are as well made as most other cars on the road, and better made than some.Originally Posted by Konan555
I'm really disappointed with this news because TVR have always been my favourite car manufacturer. I wasn't too happy with it being taken over by a Russian businessman, but thought it would be for the best. Now it seems that they are still on a slippery slope.
This doesn't surprise me, I visited the factory last year and it was far from impressive. Sure there was load of eye candy there in the form of 20 tvrs on show but the buildings themselves looked tired and run down.
I'd imagine the owner is doing this to try to get blackpool council on his side to let him build a new purpose built factory elsewhere as the current one isnt very good.

The F1 Ferraris do have FIAT written on them. Just not in the largest type.
And therin lies the problem!Originally Posted by behappier

Lotus are 80% Malaysian owned and the Elise until it had the Toyota engine has much engine and gasket popping problems.Originally Posted by hitman67
Nobles are known not to have the greatest build quality (look on Pistonheads for more)
TVR's are badly built. End of.
Landrover anythings have major drivetrain problems.
I'm sure there is a British owned and managed company that makes cars properly, but they will most certainly be the exception, rather than the rule.
In fact, I've just thought of 2 Both have Waiting lists that are years long.

Personally I have never liked TVR's. I don't go for the big brash type of car and have heard/seen so many horror stories. They are unsafe and there is nothing clever about them. No two cars were ever the same with regards to wiring and build which led to huge problems with diagnosis and things like boot lid catches were made of hand bent off cuts found on the factory floor. Also do you really think that a car that is made out of plastic should really not have modern saftey aids such as an airbag? I have no qualms with no ABS/traction and all the other electronic aids, but an airbag would not change the way it drives.
