    wrong way round

Diesels have glow plugs = piece of metal heated to at a guess 600-1000c or more (600 being about the minimum for metal to glow red) so that the fuel ignites instantly when it gets intot he cylinder - and so is injected after the air near TDC.

Glow plugs are only used because the voltage needed to conduct through diesel (and make a spark) becomes stupidly high especially with the high compression.

afaik unleaded in a diesel would just mess up the fuel lines if anything, and maybe damage the engine becuase of high compression would ingnite it early and possibly overheating - but you can change compression ratio quite easly? but apart from that petrol should work fine in a diesel

nope. diesel engines need teh lube that comes in diesel - without it they munch the fuel pump/other bits pretty quick (fuel pump is over a grand on most di diesel engines)

Actually 5lab is 100% correct. Unleaded in a diesel will cause cronic failure of ,most of the fuel system if it is started and run. Most and foremost is the diesel pump which relies on the diesel to get its lubricant. Without this it grinds itself to a pulp and then sends all the nasty shards up to the engine where they cause damage to the injectors, cylinder bores etc. Putting unleaded in a diesel and running it is a very very expensive repair on modern cars.

If you're running a mechanical derve pump with phased fuel delivery, you may be lucy enough to find yourself with a load of bent valves aswell.
