hopefully to be brought by a british company, my concern was jaguars were becoming nothing more than luxury mondeos.

Yes, would be so much better if it was bought out by the Phoenix dudes and bankrupted like Rover was.

Mondeos are supprisingly good cars though, even if they do have a ford badge

I agree completely that mondeos are good cars, but they dont hold the same prestige and history of a jaguar. a British icon.

Shall we have a whip round? I think we could do a better job than Pheonix.

I'd rather Jaguar be sold to a large foreign manufacturer because the the reality is that we have absolutely no bloody clue in how to run a large successful car company thats competitive with other manufacturers either in Europe or the Far East.

Ford did a superb job in re-invigorating Jaguar, and producing high quality reliable cars whose wheels didn't fall off every couple of miles. Honda did a similar job with Rover (and would have done a better job had they had overall control rather than acting as partnership), as BMW saved Rover with the 75 and Mini, until they realised that the words motoring industry and British were mutually exclusive.

    Sad but true.

Well I wouldnt mind if it was sold to a big european or japanese manufacturer aslong as its not sold to the americans, but idealy still a british company, companies such as Noble seem to be finding ground at the moment so maybe there is hope.

There is a difference between companies like noble who can just churn out track specials, and those like jaguar - who make cars to be used every day. Access to fords resources, engines and technologies has been rather great for jag. The fact that one engine can be used in a jag, a landy and a volvo makes its development a lot more cost effective. I think ford did a rather decent job. Maybe less mondeo switch gear in aston martins would have been nice, but you can't have everything.

Yes I have, and I have seen the top gear bit about it. Its still an expensive car rather than a mass produced 20-30k car. There are different requirements there.
