For fun suggest mods that could be done to this car.....

I had to strip out the Address so the page isn't working quite as it should but there is the bulk of the details there.....
As i've already demonstrated i'm not particularly good with cars so please take into account this, A bit of detail about what the mod would do to my car and rough costs....

lowered slightly on 17 or 18 inch wheels, just to improve the looks slightly. I've not heard many engine mods done for it, but you could prolly get a remapped ecu to release a few horses.

weeee ive got 1 of them tax discs and an exhaust trim... but the trim is the same size as the standard exhaust.
guess i cant be classed as one of these boy racers then :D got proper alloys and proper leather seats!
as for the Skoda... just look at the Octavia RS and try and make the standard one look like that

I think XTR has the right idea with looking at the Octavia RS.
That has got nice looks, maybe a new set of Alloys? or change them for some better Skoda ones.
I dont know what the performance is like in that particular Skoda, but I dont think it will be worth modding the engine, unless you want to transplant one from another car and have the car as a "sleeper" like Lowes Clio. Looks standard from the outside, but has got enough power to wipe almost anything off the floor!

The car is 4 wheel drive, and as standard the 1.8i has got 150bhp. Moby-Dick suggested i check this out rather than the 1.8RS and i have to say it appears to be loads better. I really want to check out a test drive in one of these in the next month or so to see if I like it.
I'm no boy racer but i do try and drive my 1.4i m reg astra quite hard. Acceleration currently is 0-60mph in 14 seconds, this skoda is quoted at about 8.4 to 9.1 from the reviews i've seen.
Quotes for full comp insurance for me range from £650 to £1800 from what i've checked this morning.

Bit of a price difference in those insurance quotes though. Should be able to get it a bit cheaper when you phone up! :)

The first thing to do is decide how much you're going to spend on mods. Be warned it's addictive :o
Next thing to decide. Go or Show. If you go for one, it's generally at the expense of the other...
After you've made those decisions come back to us and we'll start the (serious) suggestions. :)
I'm not a boy racer, I don't want huge body kits or stuff like that. I like driving fast, but i want reliabilty and sensible insurance.
Tough set of criteria i know, but its going to be a max of 2K on mods.

Ok.. first thing would be to raise the boost slightly and fueling to match. This would be a simple enough job, and would probably take the form of a chip. Expect to pay about 500 notes at the most for this, but you'll probably gain about 30bhp at the very least, and a lot more torque.
Then, think about an induction kit. There's many types to go for, but at the moment the only one worth coughing up for is the BMC CDA. It's a carbon sealed induction kit which stops hot air being taken in. Expect about a 5-10bhp increase. This is not a "Max Power" estimate, these kits are superb and do give a power increase. On the Civic Type R it gained 22bhp on an independent test! They cost £150-200
I'm assuming that you've thought about the handling and braking. Lowering it 35mm or so with a good set of dampers (about £300ish+) will improve the handling no end.
Brakes? A nice set of Brembo discs with the new style pads will be one hell of a lot better than standard, if you can stretch to it a set of 4 pots would be ideal. ;)

I would be a bit miffed if I made a change to say the brakes - then find out they wont allow a claim as you have modified the car
Considuring the cars i'm looking at may be between 6 months and 18 months old, i'm sure it would invalidate the warranty. Tho i'm considuring using this car for some significant amount of time. I could quite happily get used to a 150bhp car with no mods from my current 62bhp 1.4i astra and slowly mod it when the warranty ran out.
I'm sure it would be more sensible to add mods over time, when A) my insurance is going to be cheaper, when i turn 25 in a years time and B) i'm use to running with 150bhp.
I don't want to wreck my car, as i'd have to get used to 4 wheel drive as well, and i'm sure that definitely is a noticable difference, (Total traction? - i hope)

no problem , it was where I looked when the idea of a SKoda was appealing to me .
I think the 4wd would be a better drive, although it has cons as well as pro's in that you get through tyres sat a higher rate, in addition to lower fuel economy and more to service , but at least your rear wheels are getting driven :P
AND its 3 insurance groups lower than the 1.8RS.

Hmm, lower, tints, smooth it, debadge it, that'll leave u with enuff for a set of 17" n tires if u can get a good dead...
Definitely go for a chip. One of me m8s has the Golf GTi with the same 1.8 engine and I believe the same turbo.
He got it chipped for £300 and it's now pushing out bout 204bhp :) with a fair bit more torque :D
Erm, definately dont go for the chip, first thing you do when hiking the power is upgrade the brakes...

you could get the engine remapped to either 210 or 230bhp by revo. if you go for 230 you will have to change the fuel pressure regulator which is what i did to my rs price 499 + vat
