    I don't want to sound apathtic or something but do these online petitions ever work?
    What we really need is some good old fashioned civil unrest, you know, riots etc..

    I think this is the government doing two things.

    1: Finding more ways to tax the hell out of us while hiding behind some (alleged) socially responsible policy (again).

    2: Preparing the ground for still being able to tax the usage of personal transportation as they know the primary way of taxing us at the moment (fuel) is probably going to either run low or become prohibitively expensive in the next 10-15 years where the tax take will fall.

    It's always about the money.
