New Boost Controller?
I own a Celica GT4. My car is currently running lower than standard boost. This is because the boost controller that was on it died and I have since removed it. This means that because the previous owner disabled the standard boost controller that my car is running significantly slower than before.
Now the question is, should I re-enable the standard boost controller or buy a fancy electronic one. Is it worth spending £200+ on a boost controller?

Have you got a boost guage?
If so a simple MBC will do, can be picked up for about £20

Depends on how your car works tho, on the C20LET you have 2 pipes going into the Amal Valve (ECU's boost controller), you can remove these 2 pipes and put them into the MBC, this is then adjusted to a set pressure, when it opens off you go, downside of this is the engine has no control over the boost so if it needs to back off for whatever reason it cant.
Or, and this is the safer way.
You connect the MBC between the boost side and the Amal Valve so the ECU doesnt see boost until the MBC opens, this can give you a bit more control over your boost and stop a worn valve from leaking boost as it wont see anything until say 16psi...
Best thing in your case IMHO is to get the car running standard before you start twatting about with anything, join a Toyota Forum or something a bit more specific to your car.
I dont know your engine tho so take everything up there as a rough guide, wouldnt want you melting anything

Yeah, I do not want to go crazy with upping the boost and melting something. It looks to be a fairly simple job to reattach the standard boost controller, basically just attaching a few pipes back together.
I had not really considered a manual boost controller, but that may be a much cheaper solution. Even getting a boost gauge and the manual controller will be cheaper than the electronic ones that are out there.
It would be nice to get the car back to the speed it should be, it feels painfully slow at the moment.

What year is the GT4?
If its the mk2 then it'll be using the 3SGTE engine (same as MR2 Turbo)
For the MBC I would suggest:

TB Developments are a top shop, and they'll help you out if you have any problems.

Yeah, it is a 3SGTE, 1994 i belive it is.

Make sure you go with a grangier type MBC as opposed to a atmos bleeder type. :)
I'd trust a manual one to be honest. I've never seen the point in fancy boost controllers running high/low boost - leave it set to the most you can have and then be sensible with your right foot. Then should an emergency arrive you only need to exercise your foot...
