When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
Hi all. Corsair is doing some research into the reasons why people buy new PSUs. It would really help if you could take the time out to complete this quick Poll.
I appreciate that option 3 may look a bit odd seeing as this is the Corsair PSU forum, but if you build or upgrade PCs for friends or family then please also take these into account.
Please also complete this (slightly longer) Poll here.
As a thank you, everyone who responds to the Polls will be entered into a Prize Draw to win a TX650W PSU or TX750W PSU! :)
Your help is much appreciated!
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
Generally it depends what I'm building...
New high spec rig will have a new high spec PSU in it...
Old overclocking rig will have an older but good PSU.
Cheapo webserver = cheapo old second hand psu.
I generally don't get cases with PSUs.... have always got them seperate.
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
When upgrading I take into consideration the main factors such as graphics card power requirements, the type of power connections the graphics card requires and also how many power connections are available for SATA and IDE devices as I tend to have a lot of these as my PC is a media server cum gaming rig :)
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
I'd buy a new one for a new PC no matter what.
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
I don't think I've purchased a case with PSU ... since my first 586 system.
So, if I had a big upgrade, it would be a new psu.
(And given that my next system will be microatx case based - it would certainly be modular :))
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
I buy a new one every time I get a new PC, because I don't upgrade at all and my PCs last me 3 or 4 years, by the time I get a completely new one they'll always need a more powerfull PSU
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
i buy mine seperate from my case andupgrade around them and only buy a new one if my system exceeds my psu.
my ocz 600w has lasted me 2 years so far and i can't see the need to change it in the near future.
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
I generally re-use my existing PSU, because I don't make huge 2-3 yearly type upgrades, I think average upgrade period for me is roughly 12-18months depending on what and how good new things are.
So on that basis my existing PSU is usually adequate.
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
i tend too re use my psu but if the new rig will be giving it alot of strain then i would upgrade, next on my list is a corsair psu, want too see what the fuss is about xD.
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
I mostly try and use the one that comes with the case - and try and get the case from a "good" manufacturer so that you know the PSU should be good... eg AOpen / ASUS cases tend to come with fairly good PSUs. Although most recently I bought a generic case, and the PSU popped, so I did end up buying a Corsair PSU :)
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
Usually a new PSU for each build here :)
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
The poll is very limited - I will usually buy a bigger PSU to last me a few builds. It works out cheaper in the long run :)
For example, if I buy the top end Corsair now, there is going to be probably no reason at all to change regardless of what I upgrade too :)
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
For me, it depends on how long it is since I last built a new pc. If it's a couple of years, then I'll buy a new psu.
It also depends on the quality of the psu i.e. if the fan is whining, or the psu fan is operating at full pelt all the time, then it is time for a new one.
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
I normally try and hang on to my PSU for as long as possible since they do cost a bit :(.
That said, I won\'t hesitate to upgrade one if it\'s really needed !
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
Buy a new PSU for me, key component that i don\'t want to fail
Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 1
Generally a complete new build=new PSU, however stuff I build for myself tends to be in a constant state of flux, and so one build *may* go through 2 or 3 PSUs over 3-4 years before I do a full new build.
