    Corsair HX1000W PSU Whine

Hi, I have had the above psu for about 2-3 months I think.

Ever since I got the psu, it whines when I power down the pc. This only occurs when I turn the pc off, which is rare. Resetting/ rebooting my pc doesn't cause this to happen.

I am not sure if this is really a problem with the psu or not so I would love some feedback from you corsair guys.

Aside from the whine, the psu is great. Much quieter than my previous Hiper psu and I really love the flat cables. Good idea that.

    Thanks for any advice.

ps bought it after many reading reviews on psu's all over the web and especially after the review from here, so cheers Hexus.

    Re: Corsair HX1000W PSU Whine

In the past few months, users with 2** Nvidia GPUs and also ATI 45** and 48** GPUs have reported similar problems. It's a bit random. Most have RMAd the GPUs and resolved it while some RMA the PSU and resolve it.

    Re: Corsair HX1000W PSU Whine

    Thanks for the response Yellowbeard.

I have only the one 8800gtx and the problem (if it is one) only occurs with this psu.

When I said above that I wasn't sure if it is a problem with the psu or not, I may not have been clear. I meant to say that I wasn't sure if it is actually a problem. I would rather not have to rma anything if the whine is only going to happen when I power down the pc something I do rarely.

So I guess what I really meant to say is, "is this likely to become a problem or is it a sign of a problem that I already have?"

Thanks again for your response. I wasn't expecting one so quick.

    Re: Corsair HX1000W PSU Whine

I'd never have thought of uploading the sound without you TakTak. Thanks.
Sorry for the delay but this my first post to youtube. Had to figure out how to get a sound file up on to it.

Ok here is what it sounds like, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=z6k3oHgmmAQ maybe it's not a whine more like a ping? Reminds me of the doors in Star Trek

    Re: Corsair HX1000W PSU Whine

Sorry, had figured that seeing as my psu ping sound was unlike the one Taktak described that maybe there was a different problem and a RMA would not be needed.

Just noticed your quick reply to my previous post unlike my response to yours, sorry about that too. Been too busy at work

As far as I can see there is a 5 year warranty on the psu which is only a few months old. As the psu is working fine atm, I'll wait till after the Christmas holidays are over before requesting a rma as I reckon it'd only get delayed in the post either going or returning.

Thanks again for your input on this.

    Re: Corsair HX1000W PSU Whine

Hmmm, could be that. Don't have time tonight but tomorrow I'll check that out.

I'll post back afterwards to let you know. thanks for chipping in.

Ok, so I checked and it's definitely not the fan. Won't get time before Christmas to take the pc apart so I'll look in to this after the festive period.

Thanks to both of you for your help and interest.

    cheers
