I recently bought a 550VX but I noticed my mother board uses what appears to be a 4 pin connector. I was wondering if i could just use half the 8-4 pin and then use the 6&8 pin for my graphics card.

the 4/8pin is for the motherboard ONLY and splits up for that very reason.
The 6/8pin is used ONLY for your PCI-E graphics card, do not use this anywhere else.
Thanks for the reply. Just so I'm 100% sure, the connector splits up and the one half will be plugged in and the other will be off to the side, unconnected.
Also, how do i thank you? As in the Thanks thing under your post count.

Correct, you will only use 1/2 of the connector.
