    overclocking with 850hx problem

ok, so my computer keeps bsoding after trying to overclock.

it all started once i attempted overclocking to 3.6, 3.8 and 4ghz.
posted the bsods in forums before and they said it was video card bsods. and it was either videocard or power supply. seeing how it happened to two different gpu's i rma'd the psu for a brand new one and it worked perfect no more bsods.

so i figured first psu was a dud so last night i reattempted overclocking, now it started randomly bsoding again with same error. as before which was the gpu one.

    my specs are,
    i7 860 cpu
    msi gd80 motherboard
2x2gb sticks of g.skill eco series ram
    1tb os hd
    4850 ati gpu
    850hx corsair psu

max vcore ever used was 1.34vcore, and 1.3vtt. computer only oc's to 4ghz with 1.25-1.3vtt with hyperthreading off.

any idea what is happening? i dont see how a overclock can do this to a powersupply, specially such a decent psu, but computer ran weeks with the new psu without bsods untill i overclocked last night.

ive unplugged psu for about a hour, and cleared cmos, im running bios at stock settings.

    http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/3726/minidum.png

the bsod highlighted was last one i recieved from old psu, new psu was installed next day and you can see no bsods untill the 9th of december which is when i overclocked. the "hall.dll" bsods are just failed overclockers, ones above are the problems im experiencing on stock settings.

posting here since psu fixed it last time untill i tried overclocking again so didnt know if it was a possible psu problem. so hoping someone from corsair could possibly see what they think. if its wrong to post here sorry, going to also post in the techincal forum section for forum user advice, thanks.

You're overclocking, and the overclock won't work, so you're blaming the PSU?

I'm not really with you there, at all.

im recieving the bsods on stock settings. with gpu bsod errors. and was told it was gpu or psu causing the errors. so i rma'd psu and the bsods went away.

now they are back with the new psu installed, after re overclocking. im on stock bios non overclocked and still recieving the bsods after clearing cmos, so im trying to figure out if its the powersupply or not seeing how the bsods stopped completely when i recieved the new psu.

    Re: overclocking with 850hx problem

I'll go out on a limb here and say it's not the PSU.

Something else is at fault. It might be a dodgy motherboard that's damaging the PSU, or just a dodgy motherboard in a general. Or perhaps a dodgy CPU. Without a full set of alternative components it's near-impossible to locate the source of a particular problem.

what would you personally do? i dont have other stuff to test with so im only left with rmaing stuff. i tried to rma the cpu incase it was culprit but they wouldnt since i didnt try another 1156 cpu on my motherboard proving it was indeed the cpu. how many people would seriously have two 1156 processors..

    Re: overclocking with 850hx problem

I agree, that's why I hate Intel sometimes. I have a stackload of AM2+ processors if the need arises (and it has on a few occasions) and a spare socket 775. My 1156 machine will be a complete lottery, DDR3 as well.

Did you buy all of the components off the same retailer?

Be good to have a good run down of your O/C settings as well as stock settings form the whats displayed in the BIOS.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    im not home untill sunday,

but i believe the overclock i did was like. 21x191 multiplier, qpi ratio 16, memory ratio 4 i think which was 1500mhz something, 1.34vcore, 1.3vtt, 1.81pll, 1.38 dram, low vdroop, all power saving features off i cant remember the names, turbo off.

stock settings all voltages on auto (dont know at the moment what voltages auto is) dram 1.38, high vdroop, turbo on, qpi ratio auto, memory ratio 6 i think.

i believe i have pictures on my home computer i can post when i get back, sorry.

most bsods happen on computer startup, usualy doesnt happen unless turning computer on, then its first startup or sometimes it will be first two startups which is why other users on forums thought it was my psu. and its never happened with gpu drivers completey unistalled. ive done numerous os reformats, ran memtest and past 8+ passes.

motherboard, ram came from newegg, like 3 or so months ago.
psu was a gift, and cpu was purchased used from a trusted user on another site.

I forgot you mentioned your using Eco RAM:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=dow...1&prod_no=1844

Version 1.9 may be of interest to you if you've not already updated.
