    Question help with components

    Hi, starting my first project and need help with some components, i want to use a dual core cpu and not spend hundreds on it, i have seen the intel pentium D's but am unsure if they are any good, only used amd in the past

    here is a list of components i picked out

    Intel Pentium D 915 £59.31
    Foxconn 945G7MD £59.09
    Corsair Value Select 1gb(2x512mb)PC5400 £48.81

    So my questions are will these components work together, are the pentium D's any good, and could i great better for my money.

    Thanks in advice

    A) don't buy pentium D's, they are mid-way technology that is already more redundant than the old P4's.
    B) don't buy foxconn. I can't stress enough how crap my mobo is.
    C) try get 1 single stick of 1gb instead of 2x 512's. This will allow more expansion in the future. Corsair is a good choice, never go for unbranded or cheap crap.

    What about this;

    LN15047
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, Socket 775, 1.86 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Allendale Core, 2MB Cache, Retail £94.75 £111.33
    LN15028
    Asus P5B i965, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX £63.49 £74.60
    LN11094
    1Gb Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15 £39.95 £46.94

    Total= 232.87 + shipping at about £10.

    This will literally last you ages.

    I probably wouldnt do microATX... But there is a P5B micro atx board available. It's not got much room on it but its still a decent board.

    another question, i have been looking up the core 2 duos and found out the clock frequency multiplier on the e6300 is locked, will i still be able to get a good overclock out of it, or would spending the extra money and getting a e6400 be a better move.

    No, it doesnt make a difference really. I'm pretty sure my E6400 is locked aswell.You'll still get a good performance out of the E6300, as long as you have a good mobo.

    Nah, stick with a P5B variant, and get a E4300 instead of the 6300.
