Assuming its not broken, I wouldn't think so - Cat5 ethernet supports speeds upto 100Mb/s, and your internet connection is unlikley to saturate that for atleast a few years!![]()

Nope, not in the slightest, unless as Kidzer said, its broken.
Even Cat3 is rated for 10MBit/sec
You could probably use just about anything and still be able to send more data down it than your modem can handle.
