Project - Need your thoughts and suggestions please guys!

    Hi there,

I was originally going to just sell on this old case of mine but now that I have all the components out of it I've had the urge to do a project on it. It currently only has two rear 80mm fan mounts. There are also quite a few holes around the PCI section and of course the front of it has missing bay panels.

So what do you think? Should I paint it black? Any ideas for the holes that need patching? Any thoughts and ideas here would be much appreciated.

You could easily fit a monster watercooling rig in that and do a paintjob on it. You'd need to fill up those 5.25" bays with something though, shouldn't be too hard, perhaps some HDD caddies and stick em in there instead. Other than the ugly beige that's a pretty nice case. As for colour black would be spot on, just a thin metal plate at the back would cover up those I/O cutouts.

I could cover up two of the holes with DVDRW and Fan controller but that would leave another 3 spaces left to cover (got two bay covers, but 6/7 bays) I could make a sheet of metal to fit in there perhaps to cover up the existing space. Do you think I could move HDD's up there?

Sure, HDD caddies are cheap enough these days, probably provide better cooling, and cover up more of the drive bays.

Sweet, worth a go. So would you give the side panel a window or not?

If you did a paintjob on the interior sure, might as well show off your handywork

Those HDD caddys you were talking about? Could you link me to somewhere please? Having trouble finding.

Yes something like that, there are prettier ones on the market though.

Obviously my HDD is smaller than a optical drive and so it wouldn't fit the width of the cage of the optical section, this caddy allows me to fit it here? I'm only after something cheap really, functionality more than anything.

Yes, the purpose of caddies is to facilitate quick removal via 5.25" slots, although in this case it'll allow free circulation of air and full up a hole in the case

I think it was Scythe who i saw that did a 120mm fan (behind a cool looking grill) that took up 3 drive bays, that might look cool ? As suggested earlier, a watercooling rig with a 5.25" reservoir would be cool too ?

That case is a great modder.

That I/O panel that isn't used, turn it into a 120mm fan bracket (or 80mm, whicher fits)

You can get some AWESOME cable managing in there, the section used for the PSU has no metal plating so you can easily cut a couple holes in the motherboard area, and route your wires through the PSU area, into the sidepanel (disguised) and out the holes in the Mobo tray.

Paint it all your favourite colour...

Figure out how many 5.25" drive bays you're gunna use, and cut a peice of perspex and put that in the holes, this will look better than a side panel window.

Stick some cold cathodes in their, in your fav colour, of course.

Thanks for the feedback guys you have come up with some excellent ideas. Here are a few ideas so far:

For the front 5.25" bay area to cover up 3 of the bays like Collossous suggested I am going to purchase one of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=532631

I am going to leave the idea of getting a caddy as all I need is a HDD bracket adapter to move my HDD up there into the 5.25" bay:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=475814

That should sort out the front bay cover issue.

DecomposingStar: You can get some AWESOME cable managing in there, the section used for the PSU has no metal plating so you can easily cut a couple holes in the motherboard area, and route your wires through the PSU area, into the sidepanel (disguised) and out the holes in the Mobo tray.
I don't understand what you mean, could you explain further please?
